The Indianapolis Motor Speedway opened in 1909. In 1911 the first Indy 500 race took place. This weekend the Brickyard will be filled with race fans as well as well known NASCAR drivers. "The term "Brickyard" is in reference to the nickname historically used for the Indianapolis Motor Speedwaybrick in 1909, and a one-yard strip of brick remains exposed the start/finish line" since 1910.
