peace: IN A STATE OF PEACEFUL HAPPINESS - 01/11/19 05:26 AM
IN A STATE OF PEACEFUL HAPPINESS
PSALM 131:2 But I have calmed and quieted myself, I am like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child I am content.
DEFINITION of CONTENT in a state of peaceful happiness.
ELLICOTT'S COMMENTARY The figure here is plain. It is taken from a baby’s first real sorrow when he not merely feels pain, but is allowed no access to that which was his solace hitherto. He moans, and frets, and sobs, but at last is quieted by the love which is powerful to soothe, even when it must deny.

peace: THERE IS REST AND PEACE ENJOYED IN THE WAYS OF GOD - 10/13/18 06:28 AM
THERE IS REST AND PEACE ENJOYED IN THE WAYS OF GOD
JEREMIAH 6:16 This is what the LORD says: "Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.
GILL'S EXPOSTION and ask for the old paths; of righteousness and holiness, which Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and others, walked in, and follow them; and the way of salvation by Christ, which, though called a new way,
and ye shall find rest for your souls; there is rest and peace enjoyed in the ways of … (2 comments)

peace: PEACE AND HOLINESS GO TOGETHER - 02/04/18 04:19 AM
PEACE AND HOLINESS GO TOGETHER HEBREWS 12:14 Make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. MATTHEW HENRY'S COMMENTARY But peace and holiness go together; there can be not right peace without holiness. Where persons fail of having the true grace of God, corruption will prevail and break forth; beware lest any unmortified lust in the heart, which seems to be dead, should spring up, to trouble and disturb the whole body. Falling away from Christ is the fruit of preferring the delights of the flesh, to the blessing of … (3 comments)

peace: GOD WILL DISAPPOINT THEIR MALIGNANT PURPOSES - 12/29/17 02:50 AM
GOD WILL DISAPPOINT THEIR MALIGNANT PURPOSES ROMANS 16:17-20 I urge you, brothers and sisters, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them. For such people are not serving our Lord Christ, but their own appetites. By smooth talk and flattery they deceive the minds of naive people. For such people are not serving our Lord Christ, but their own appetites. By smooth talk and flattery they deceive the minds of naive people. The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. … (0 comments)

peace: SPEAK PEACE TO YOUR BORDERS THIS CHRISTMAS - 12/12/17 05:47 AM
SPEAK PEACE TO YOUR BORDERS THIS CHRISTMAS PSALM 147:14 He grants peace to your borders and satisfies you with the finest of wheat. BARNES' NOTES The word border here refers to a boundary. GILL'S EXPOSITIONS He maketh peace in thy borders, which are usually most infested by enemies. GENEVA STUDY BIBLE He maketh peace in thy borders, and filleth thee with the finest of the wheat. … (0 comments)

peace: JESUS CAME TO BIND US BACK TOGETHER WITH THE FATHER - 11/25/17 05:11 AM
The Greek word for peace in Luke 2:14 is derived from a root word meaning "to bind together." Jesus came to bind us back together with the Father.
LUKE 2:14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.

peace: REFINING AND IMPROVING YOUR OWN LIFE - 06/27/17 05:06 AM
REFINING AND IMPROVING YOUR OWN LIFE MATTHEW 7:3 "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? MATTHEW HENRY COMMENTARY We must not make the worst of people. Here is a just reproof to those who quarrel with their brethren for small faults, while they allow themselves in greater ones.   It is as strange that a man can be in a sinful, miserable condition, and not be aware of it, as that a man should have a beam in his eye, and not consider it. Here is … (2 comments)

peace: PEACE IS HER PRIORITY AND NEGATIVITY CANNOT EXIST - 06/02/17 04:11 AM
PEACE IS HER PRIORITY AND NEGATIVITY CANNOT EXIST PROVERBS 12:20 Deceit is in the hearts of those who plot evil, but those who promote peace have joy. MATTHEW POOLE'S COMMENTARY They whose hearts devise mischief against others shall be deceived in their hopes, and bring that trouble upon themselves which they design against others; but they who by good counsels labour to promote the peace and happiness of others, shall reap the comfort and benefit of it to themselves.  GILL'S EXPOSITION if they succeed, they have joy and pleasure; if not, they have a satisfaction, in their own minds and consciences that they … (0 comments)

peace: BEING CONTENT - 04/27/17 04:49 AM
BEING CONTENT
ECCLESIASTES 5:20 They seldom reflect on the days of their life, because God keeps them occupied with gladness of heart.
GILL'S EXPOSITION he will not think life long and tedious; nor dwell upon, and distress himself with, the troubles he has met with, or is likely to meet with; but, being content with the good things God has given him, and freely and cheerfully enjoying them, he passes away his time delightfully and pleasantly.

peace: ANY FOOL CAN KNOW - 04/23/17 05:45 AM
ANY FOOL CAN KNOW PROVERBS 4:5 Get wisdom, get understanding; do not forget my words or turn away from them.  MATTHEW HENRY'S COMMENTARY Solomon's parents loved him, therefore taught him. Wise and godly men, in every age of the world, and rank in society, agree that true wisdom consists in obedience, and is united to happiness. Get wisdom, take pains for it. Get the rule over thy corruptions; take more pains to get this than the wealth of this world. An interest in Christ's salvation is necessary. This wisdom is the one thing needful. A soul without true wisdom and grace is … (1 comments)

peace: HOPE COMES FROM GOD BY THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT - 04/05/17 08:50 AM
HOPE COMES FROM GOD BY THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
ROMANS 15:13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
NIV STUDY Any hope the Christian has comes from God by the power of the Holy Spirit. Hope cannot be conjured up by man's effort; it is God's gift by his spirit.

peace: AND WHEN THEY EXCLUDE YOU - 03/28/17 04:03 AM
AND WHEN THEY EXCLUDE YOU
LUKE 6:22 Blessed are you when people hate you, when they exclude you and insult you and reject your name as evil, because of the Son of Man.
CAMBRIDGE BIBLE The world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world; And ‘the world’ by no means excludes the so-called ‘religious world,’ which has hated with a still fiercer hatred, and exposed to a yet deadlier martyrdom, some of its greatest prophets and teachers. Not a few of the great and holy men enumerated in the next note fell … (1 comments)

peace: THE HEART IS REGARDED AS THE SEAT OF INTELLECT, NOT FEELING ONLY - 03/13/17 04:28 AM
THE HEART IS REGARDED AS THE SEAT OF INTELLECT, NOT FEELING ONLY
PHILLIPPIANS 4:7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
PULPIT COMMENTARY The thoughts issue from the heart; for the heart, as commonly in the Hebrew Scriptures, is regarded as the seat of the intellect, not of feeling only. In Christ Jesus; in the sphere of his influence, his presence. True believers, abiding in Christ, realize his promise, "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you."

peace: COMPOSEDLY SUFFERED LOSS AND HARDSHIPS - 03/06/17 06:24 AM
COMPOSEDLY SUFFERED LOSS AND HARDSHIPS
PHILIPPIANS 4:7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
MATTHEW HENRY COMMENTARY Let their enemies perceive how moderate they were as to outward things, and how composedly they suffered loss and hardships. The day of judgment will soon arrive, with full redemption to believers, and destruction to ungodly men. There is a care of diligence which is our duty, and agrees with a wise forecast and due concern; but there is a care of fear and distrust, which is sin and folly, and only perplexes and … (0 comments)

LISTEN AND WATCH CLOSELY BEFORE YOU SAY I DO
COLOSSIANS 3:19 Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them.
WEYMOUTH NEW TESTAMENT Married men, be affectionate to your wives, and do not treat them harshly.
NEW HEART ENGLISH BIBLE Husbands, love your wives, and do not be bitter against them.
MATTHEW HENRY COMMENTARY Submission is the duty of wives. But it is submission, not to a severe lord or stern tyrant, but to her own husband, who is engaged to affectionate duty. And husbands must love their wives with tender and faithful affection.
JAMIESON-FAUSSET-BROWN BIBLE COMMENTARY be not bitter—ill-tempered and provoking. Many who … (0 comments)

peace: WHAT ARE YOU FULL OF - 01/14/17 05:11 AM
LUKE 6:45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.
MATTHEW HENRY COMMENTARY Those who follow the multitude to do evil, follow in the broad way that leads to destruction. The tree is known by its fruits; may the word of Christ be so grafted in our hearts, that we may be fruitful in every good word and work. And what the mouth commonly speaks, … (3 comments)

peace: NOT BEING TOO HARD ON THE FAULTS OF OTHERS - 01/10/17 03:38 AM
NOT BEING TOO HARD ON THE FAULTS OF OTHERS, REMEMBERING THAT YOU HAVE YOUR OWN
When you are kind to one another, you are being conscientious, generous, friendly, and considerate. The more you shower others in kindness, the kinder they become to themselves and others, as well.
EPHESIANS 4:32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
PULPIT COMMENTARY (opposed to bitterness, wrath, anger;) kind, sweet, amiable in disposition, subduing all that is harsh and hasty, encouraging all that is gentle and good; tender-hearted, denoting a specially compassionate feeling, such as may arise from the … (1 comments)

peace: THE PEACEMAKERS ARE HAPPY - 12/24/16 04:19 AM
MATTHEW 5:9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
MATTHEW HENRY'S COMMENTARY The peace-makers are happy. They love, and desire, and delight in peace; and study to be quiet. They keep the peace that it be not broken, and recover it when it is broken. If the peace-makers are blessed, woe to the peace-breakers!

peace: PEACE AT ALL TIMES - 12/10/16 05:10 AM
Peace comes from the presence of God, not the absence of trouble.
ISAIAH 26:3 You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.
MATTHEW HENRY'S COMMENTARY Let sinners then be encouraged to join to the Lord. Thou wilt keep him in peace; in perfect peace, inward peace, outward peace, peace with God, peace of conscience, peace at all times, in all events. Trust in the Lord for that peace, that portion, which will be for ever. Whatever we trust to the world for, it will last only for a moment; but those who trust in God … (1 comments)
