prayer: OVERCOME - 07/26/12 08:55 PM
REVELATION 12:11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony;
MATTHEW HENRY'S COMMENTARY The redeemed overcame by a simple reliance on the blood of Christ, as the only ground of their hopes. In this we must be like them. We must not blend any thing else with this.

prayer: Blessings - 07/25/12 08:39 PM
JOHN 1:16 From the fullness of his grace we have all received one blessing after another.
CLARKE'S COMMENTARY A modest woman is a grace upon a grace, i.e. a double grace or blessing.

prayer: FAITH - 07/24/12 08:53 PM
HEBREWS 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
CLARKE'S COMMENTARY He must believe, also, that he rewards them that diligently seek him; that he is not indifferent about his own worship; that he requires adoration and religious service from men; and that he blesses, and especially protects and saves, those who in simplicity and uprightness of heart seek and serve him.

prayer: goodness & mercy - 07/23/12 09:04 PM
PSALM 23:6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.
CLARKE'S COMMENTARY Goodness and mercy shall follow me. As I pass on through the vale of life, thy goodness and mercy shall follow my every step; as I proceed, so shall they. There seems to be an allusion here to the waters of the rock smitten by the rod of Moses, which followed the Israelites all the way through the wilderness, till they came to the Promised Land. God never leaves his true followers, providential mercies … (5 comments)

prayer: WITHOUT FEAR - 07/22/12 08:21 PM
PROVERBS 31:25 She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future.
BARNES' NOTES Strength, not of body, but of mind. The church is clothed with strength, as her Lord, head, for though she is the weaker vessel, and weak in herself, yet is strong in him; and is able to bear and do all things, with a fortitude of mind to withstand every enemy,

prayer: Let us go into the house of the Lord - 07/21/12 08:33 PM
PSALM 122:1 I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord.
BARNES' NOTES The language is expressive of the, happiness which is felt by those who love God and his sanctuary, when the stated season of worship returns. The heart is drawn to the house of prayer; the soul is filled with peace at the prospect of being again permitted to worship God.
MATTHEW HENRY'S COMMENTARY The pleasure and profit from means of grace, should make us disregard trouble and fatigue in going to them; and we should quicken one another to what is good.

prayer: Morning By Morning - 07/20/12 09:12 PM
ISAIAH 50:4 The Lord GOD hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary: he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned.
MATTHEW HENRY'S COMMENTARY the same Divine influence daily wakened him to pray, to preach the gospel, and to receive and deliver the whole will of the Father. The Father justified the Son when he accepted the satisfaction he made for the sin of man. Christ speaks in the name of all believers. Who dares to be an enemy … (2 comments)

prayer: O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer - 07/19/12 08:26 PM
PSALM 19:14 Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.
GILL'S EXPOSITION Meaning either his speech in common conversation, which should not be filthy and foolish, rotten and corrupt; but such as ministers grace to the hearer: or else his address to God, both in prayer and thanksgiving;
and the meditation of my heart; his inward thoughts continually revolving in his mind; or his meditation on the word of God and divine things; or mental prayer, which is not expressed, only conceived in the mind;
be acceptable in … (1 comments)

prayer: The LORD will fight for you, and you have only to be silent - 07/18/12 08:21 PM
EXODUS 14:14 The LORD will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.
MATTHEW HENRY'S COMMENTARY Stand still, think not to save yourselves either by fighting or flying; wait God's orders, and observe them. Compose yourselves, by confidence in God, into peaceful thoughts of the great salvation God is about to work for you. If God brings his people into straits, he will find a way to bring them out.

prayer: HOPE - 07/17/12 09:18 PM
ROMANS 15:13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
NIV STUDY Any hope the Christian has comes from God by the power of the Holy Spirit. Hope cannot be conjured up by man's effort; it is God's gift by his spirit.

prayer: Trusting In God's Timing - 07/16/12 09:10 PM
PSALM 31:14-15 But I trust in you, Lord: I say, "You are my God." My times are in your hands;
BARNES' NOTES Then he trusted in God. His confidence did not fail. He believed that God was his Father and Friend; that He was on the throne; that He could protect and defend him; and he left himself and his cause with Him. In such circumstances as these there is no other sure refuge but God; at such times the strength of faith is shown.

prayer: IF GOD IS ALL YOU HAVE, YOU HAVE ALL YOU NEED - 07/16/12 09:55 AM
JOHN 14:8 Philip said, "Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us."
MATTHEW HENRY'S COMMENTARY However others are overwhelmed with the sorrows of this present time, be not you so. Christ's disciples, more than others, should keep their minds quiet, when everything else is unquiet. Here is the remedy against this trouble of mind, Believe. By believing in Christ as the Mediator between God and man, we gain comfort.
