prayer: KNOWLEDGE - 01/06/13 09:09 PM
PROVERBS 1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.
CLARKE'S COMMENTARY The love of God shed abroad in the heart by the Holy Spirit produces the deepest religious reverence, genuine piety, and cheerful obedience. To love one's neighbor as himself is the second great commandment; and as love worketh no ill to one's neighbor, therefore it is said to be the fulfilling of the law. Without love, there is no obedience; without reverence, there is neither caution, consistent conduct, nor perseverance in righteousness.

prayer: Yea, let none that wait on thee be ashamed - 01/05/13 09:40 PM
They waited on the Lord in public worship...
PSALM 25:3 Yea, let none that wait on thee be ashamed.
GILL'S EXPOSITION Yea, let none that wait on thee be ashamed.... David not only prays for himself, but for other saints, as it becomes the people of God to do; for them they waited on the Lord in public worship, attended his house and ordinances, and waited on him for the discoveries of his love, the enjoyment of his voracious presence, and were looking for his salvation,
CLARKE'S COMMENTARY Let none that wait on thee be ashamed - Though he had burden enough of his … (0 comments)

prayer: DESTINATION - 01/04/13 09:14 PM
Our future is heaven. A clear understanding of the destination changes how we navigate the entire journey.
MATTHEW 6:33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as
well.
CLARKE'S COMMENTARY His righteousness - That holiness of heart and purity of life which God requires of those who profess to be subjects of that spiritual kingdom mentioned above.

prayer: BE HAPPY. BE BRIGHT. BE YOU. - 01/03/13 07:14 PM
ECCLESIASTES 2:26 To the man who please him, God gives wisdom, knowledge and happiness.
I LOVE WEBSTER'S DEFINITION of HAPPINESS enjoyment of pleasure without pain, blessedness, satisfaction, elegance, appropriateness and bliss
MATTHEW HENRY'S COMMENTARY To those that are accepted of the Lord, he gives joy and satisfaction in the knowledge and love of him. But to the sinner he allots labour, sorrow, vanity, and vexation, in seeking a worldly portion, which yet afterwards comes into better hands. Let the sinner seriously consider his latter end. To seek a lasting portion in the love of Christ and the blessings it bestows, is the only … (1 comments)

prayer: I thank you Father that Your Word prevails over our children - 01/02/13 08:51 PM
I thank you Father that Your Word prevails over our children.
ACTS 19:20 So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.
GILL'S EXPOSITION So mightily grew the word of God, and prevailed. Over conjuring books, conjurers themselves, yea, even the devils; the power of God going along with it, many were converted; which is meant by the increase of it, and were delivered from the power of darkness, out of the hands of Satan, and translated into the kingdom of Christ. Beza's ancient copy reads, the "faith" of God; and the Syriac version, "faith in God".

prayer: GOT PATIENCE? - 01/01/13 08:52 PM
PROVERBS 25:15 Through patience a ruler can be persuaded, and a gentle tongue can break a bone.
GILL'S EXPOSITION ...to which he may seem at first very averse; but by a mild and gentle representation of things, by an humble submission of them to him, and by frequent remonstrances and patient waiting, his mind is softened, bent, and inclined to take their advice, and pursue the measures suggested to him; which, had they been pressed with heat, haughtiness, and haste, would have been rejected;
so David, with a soft tongue, wrought upon Saul, his enemy; and Abigail, by her soft language, turned the … (0 comments)

prayer: To You, O Lord, I lift up my soul - 12/31/12 08:29 PM
PSALM 86:4 Bring joy to your servant, for to you, O Lord, I lift up my soul.
MATTHEW HENRY'S COMMENTARY The best self-preservation is to commit ourselves to God's keeping. I am one whom thou favourest, hast set apart for thyself, and made partaker of sanctifying grace. It is a great encouragement to prayer, to feel that we have received the converting grace of God, have learned to trust in him, and to be his servants. We may expect comfort from God, when we keep up our communion with God. God's goodness appears in two things, in giving and forgiving. Whatever others … (1 comments)

prayer: PRESS ON TOWARD THE GOAL - 12/30/12 08:27 PM
PHILIPPIANS 3:14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
MATTHEW HENRY'S COMMENTARY He who runs a race, must never stop short of the end, but press forward as fast as he can; so those who have heaven in their view, must still press forward to it, in holy desires and hopes, and constant endeavors.

prayer: Happy New Year 2013 - 12/29/12 07:59 PM
PSALM 65:11 Thou crownest the year with thy goodness; and thy paths drop fatness.
CLARKE'S COMMENTARY Thou crownest the year - the unmerited goodness of God. And thy paths drop fatness - fertility attends thy goings.

prayer: God Is After Our Trust - 12/28/12 08:56 PM
JOSHUA 3:8 And you shall command the priests that bear the ark of the covenant, saying, When you are come to the brink of the water of Jordan, you shall stand still in Jordan.
JOSHUA 3:13 And it shall come to pass, as soon as the soles of the feet of the priests that bear the ark of the LORD, the LORD of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of Jordan, that the waters of Jordan shall be cut off from the waters that come down from above; and they shall stand on an heap.
God was saying, "When you get to … (2 comments)

prayer: Be Fully Committed To The LORD - 12/27/12 07:10 PM
2 CHRONICLES 16:9 For the eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.
MATTHEW HENRY'S COMMENTARY God is displeased when he is distrusted, and when an arm of flesh is relied on, more than his power and goodness. It is foolish to lean on a broken reed, when we have the Rock of ages to rely upon.

prayer: RESERVOIR - 12/26/12 07:11 PM
Be to God a reservoir where He can store up His reserve of strength and power and blessing, and so make it readily available to the thirsty, not like the man in Luke 11:6, having unexpected guests at midnight, had nothing to set before them.
LUKE 11:6 For a friend of mine in his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him?
MATTHEW HENRY'S COMMENTARY Christ encourages fervency and constancy in prayer. We must come for what we need, as a man does to his neighbour or friend, who is kind to him. We must come for bread; … (1 comments)

prayer: God with us - 12/23/12 07:42 PM
No matter the situation or storm God is still right here with us. At all times and in every trouble He remains Immanuel. He is God with us.
MATTHEW 1:23 The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel which means, "God with us."
WESLEY'S NOTES And thus was he called Emmanuel; which was no common name of Christ, but points out his nature and office; as he is God incarnate, and dwells by his Spirit in the hearts of his people.

prayer: Start Your Day With Jesus - 12/19/12 07:29 PM
PSALM 90:14 Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.
MATTHEW HENRY'S COMMENTARY Let the grace of God in us produce the light of good works. And let Divine consolations put gladness into our hearts, and a lustre upon our countenances. The work of our hands, establish thou it; and, in order to that, establish us in it. Instead of wasting our precious, fleeting days in pursuing fancies, which leave the possessors for ever poor, let us seek the forgiveness of sins, and an inheritance in heaven. Let us … (2 comments)

prayer: Emmanuel, God with us - 12/16/12 07:30 PM
MATTHEW 1:23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
MATTHEW HENRY'S COMMENTARY The mystery of Christ's becoming man is to be adored, not curiously inquired into. It was so ordered that Christ should partake of our nature, yet that he should be pure from the defilement of original sin, which has been communicated to all the race of Adam. Observe, it is the thoughtful, not the unthinking, whom God will guide. God's time to come with instruction to his people, is when they … (0 comments)

prayer: Glory to God in the highest... - 11/24/12 08:07 PM
The Greek word for peace in Luke 2:14 is derived from a root word meaning "to bind together." Jesus came to bind us back together with the Father.
LUKE 2:14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.

prayer: It's better to have God approve, than the world applaud - 11/19/12 09:09 PM
JOHN 15:18 If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first.
MATTHEW HENRY'S COMMENTARY The world's ignorance is the true cause of its hatred to the disciples of Jesus. The clearer and fuller the discoveries of the grace and truth of Christ, the greater is our sin if we do not love him and believe in him.
