You know beyond a doubt that you are a successful real estate agent.  You have been asked by AgentHarvest to give a listing presentation to a homeowner in a neighborhood that you’ve sold lots of houses in.  You have done your homework, you know the neighborhood, and you have a great reputation in the real estate industry.  Basically this listing is in the bag.  However, you discover that you couldn’t be more wrong.  The homeowner chose another real estate agent.  Where did you go wrong?  Why did they choose the another agent?
I’m in a unique position to … (0 comments)

real estate agent: Realtor Gives Listing Presentation to Grieving Family At Funeral - 09/07/10 02:27 PM
Sadly this is a true story that happened to me in my 20's, about 17 years ago.  I was actually approached by a Broker, that sold properties in Fairhope, Alabama, at my grandmother's funeral visitation.  Worst of all, he was doing his preliminary listing presentation right next to the open casket.  Apparently some real estate agents will go to great lengths to get a listing.  This property was a house in Montrose on Seacliff Drive, overlooking the bay and he wanted it badly and no dead grandmother was going to stand in his way.

I have the entire story on … (2 comments)

real estate agent: Agent Pulls Gun On Homeowner To Get Real Estate For Sale Sign Back - 08/26/10 10:44 AM
I can't believe this happened, and it happend in my town.  A man pulls a gun on a homeowner to get real estate sign back.  It's assumed that it's a real estate sign and the gunman is an agent.  I know how protective I am of my real estate signs, but this is beyond my scope.

real estate agent: Don't Be Too Cheap When Using Flat-Fee Listing Agents - 08/23/10 08:19 AM

Flat-fee listing agents provide an opportunity for people selling their homes to get their house listed on MLS without paying that agent a real estate commission.  Instead, they pay a flat fee for the services they want and then perform all the other services themselves.

Can you be too cheap when using a flat-fee listing agent.  Yes, and here's how being cheap can hurt your chances of selling your house...

real estate agent: Realtor -vs- Real Estate Agent - When can you use the term Realtor and when SHOULD you use the term Real Estate Agent. - 06/20/10 05:55 PM

Original source:  http://blog.agentharvest.com/real-estate-industry/realtor-vs-real-estate-agent-when-is-it-appropriate-to-use-the-term-realtor/
Shortly after launching our Really Rotten Realty website last month, we were reminded of the difference between Realtors and real estate agents.  That reminder came in the form of a friendly request from the National Association of Realtors’ legal department about the correct use of their trademark.
Find out how we used the term Realtor incorrectly and find out also how the term should be correctly used.  The original article referenced above was assembled from an interview we had with the Trademark Administrator for National Association of Realtors, Mary Newill and our staff at AgentHarvest.

real estate agent: Beware of the Inflatable Real Estate Agent - 09/02/09 10:22 AM
A real estate agent that inflates a list price beyond reality just to get the listing is deceptive and may be harmful to the sale of your house.  The deceptive practice of inflating the list price is effective because the client wants to hear that their house is worth a high price.  Bad agents are more than eager to feed into this delusion.  Good agents base their suggested list prices on real conditions so they will be lower than an inflated price.  If you want to get the most for your house, and everybody does, you’d naturally pick the real estate … (3 comments)

real estate agent: Is Your Real Estate Agent Doing Everything Possible To Sell Your House? - 08/27/09 05:58 PM
Imagine this scenario.  It’s been 120 days since your agent put a for sale sign in your yard.  On the day you hired your Realtor, she promised it would be a successful working relationship.   Weeks later, this “relationship” somehow turned into a “one-night stand.”   She doesn’t return your phone calls, she never drops by and now there’s a bird’s nest occupying the empty Info Box that use to hold your house’s brochures so many months ago.
In this situation, do you think your real estate agent is doing everything possible to sell your house?  Of course not.  This agent … (2 comments)

real estate agent: Real Estate Agents – The Good, The Bad & The Ugly - 08/21/09 03:17 PM
The Amazing Jonathan, a famous comedian/magician, once said, “There are three types of people in the world, those that can count and those that can’t.”  You may have to read it a couple of times before you catch the joke.  I believe real estate agents can be similarly categorized too.  I rank agents according to the title of a Clint Eastwood western.  I believe there are three types of agents in the world, the good, the bad, and the ugly.  You want the good agent, you should avoid the bad agent and you should live in fear of the ugly agent.

real estate agent: Real Estate Agents Get 3% More Selling Their Own Home Than When Selling Yours - 08/19/09 04:17 PM
According to the book Freakonomics, written by Stephen Dubner and Steven Levitt, real estate agents sell their own homes for 3% more compared to what they get when they sell their client’s houses.  The authors suggest dishonesty and double-standards as the reasons for this finding, but I think there’s a more honest reason why Realtors may be able to get a higher selling price for their homes compared to their clients’.
Many Realtors disagree with Freakonomic’s findings, swearing that real estate agents do not sell their homes for a higher price.  I am not going to question the book’s findings; instead, … (1 comments)
