Abundant rain this spring has made the first Hay cutting across Central Nebraska a success...Except for those who have not got their cut crop picked up because of the aforementioned abundant rain. 
Hay or alfalfa that lays very long on the ground begins to turn black and eventually will also mold.  Most animals do not like the dark colored or moldy hay.  (Go figure)
If the crop gets rained on continuously before it is baled, the loss of nutrients can be substantial. 
According to the Nebraska Alfalfa Marketing Association, Nebraska alfalfa producers will harvest around 5 million TONS of alfalfa hay on roughly … (1 comments)
