“If I can just get my home in MLS, I’ll pay an agent to sell it.” Sounds reasonable, doesn’t it? I’ve written before about how MLS is an important part of my ‘magic marketing bag of tricks’ but don’t be confused…it’s only magic if I make it that way. There’s a really good reason we, as experienced professionals, are integral to a smooth real estate transaction. We are bi-lingual…we speak the languages of both buyers AND sellers; languages which are quite different when you think about it. Fortunately the respective languages are not fraught with grammatical pitfalls. I asked a client the other day what her expectations were of me for the freshly inked listing contract period. My little sister called me the other day and in an excited voice declared, “I think I might need to look at houses…It’s a GREAT time to buy a house right now, you know!” After the pregnant pause ensued (the one where my condescending big sister brain struggled with my professional Realtor brain) I finally said, “No? Really? What makes you think that?” (You can tell which brain won out.) “Well. Just a little Point-CounterPoint to round out a Tuesday night...Ken Tracy, a fellow Realtor from Naperville, IL, just offered up a post about why he is moving forward with buying a new home for his family. Go For It Ken! (Just so nobody thinks I would actually try to talk him OUT of it!) But much as I envy him the excitement and the opportunity, I will NOT be availing myself of a similar one. I’m getting tired of the question. Not that I hear it often from the folks around me but the other day I watched a television reporter interview a married couple, who live in one of the economically harder hit areas of the country, how they were coping; what they do for a living. When the husband replied that he is a real estate agent, the reporter looked incredulous and said “You’re STILL a real estate agent? Haven’t you even CONSIDERED doing something else?!” I was glued to the television, praying he would say I don’t know..the national viewership of mainstream television … (27 comments)
