The next step after pre-qualifying your new buyer client is to begin the home search within their projected price range. Obviously, the bigger the city you live in, the more options the buyer has for choosing their first home. However, when you are in a smaller area (such as Altus & Altus AFB, Oklahoma), you learn to get creative and show the buyers everything there is to offer, and even some that are slightly out of their range (negotiating comes into play!). So, I have begun thinking it would be a good idea to dedicate a section to first-time home buyers here on my blog. I know there are so many of you in my area of the country and it continues to grow in leads and bounds because of the Military members moving into Altus AFB. Before I begin showing homes to a first-time home buyer, I like for them to get a pre-qualification letter from a reputable lender. Today, let's talk BAH (Basic Allowance for Housing) pay and how it affects a mortgage payment for our Military families. Many families (and even single people) find it a better deal for them to buy than for all their BAH to go toward living on base. As a Realtor here in Altus, I am seeing more and more Air Force families moving here turn to buying instead of renting or living in base housing.
For example, an E-5 (SSgt) at Altus AFB will get $822/mo for BAH. For about $800/mo, you can purchase a home that costs (3 comments)

With the coming of the Fall season, comes new and exciting happenings in our local Real Estate market here in Altus, OK. Even though home prices are still down slightly from last year, the interest rates are phenomenal and now is a wonderful time for those who are "on the fence" about buying to jump in and purchase a wonderful house!
