north shore: once again, Jason Crouch is right.... (dagnabit!) - 02/13/09 12:36 AM
After reading Jason Crouch's post this morning, on recruiting through AR, Twitter & Facebook, I had to agree that he's right... again.
Today's Managing Broker must be the leading edge, and should have a public personna.  And what better way to do that... to show that you're leading the agency into the cutting edge of today's technology than to blog?  (and of course what better place than Active Rain, where it'll be viewed by a large group of Realtors in your own area?)
I have forwarded Jason's post to my managing broker, and suggested that she might want to consider beginning … (6 comments)

north shore: Skip this one and read Jason Crouch - 02/12/09 12:07 AM
Liz Moras was kind enough to point out, this morning, that I'm on the verge of another milestone.  It took a long time to get here, and a lot of hard work and perseverance, but it was worth it. I know it's kinda hard to tell, but if you look carefully, at the graphic to the left, you'll be able to see.
Nope, that's not it.... nope, not that either.  Ahh, there it is, you finally noticed.  Yes, I'm getting a pimple.  Just under my right eye, and it's incredibly irritating.  I know when people look at my photo, that's really … (22 comments)

north shore: For Sale - One Wife, slightly used, 1964 Model - 02/11/09 08:44 AM
I found this online, and I had to share.  I found it very funny.
IMPORTANT:  I am not offering MY wife for sale.  The wife mentioned in this ad is nothing like my wife, and I have no interest in selling my wife.  Mine is a keeper, and offers will not be considered for her.
That being said, here is the ad that I found online in it's entirety.  Enjoy:

north shore: Learn how to be in upper management in 5 easy lessons! (or 1 really hard one) - 02/11/09 05:10 AM
Welcome to the 5-easy lesson Management Training Course in preparation for the first quarter of 2009    in five easy lessons:
A man is getting into the shower as his wife is getting out, when the doorbell rings. She quickly wraps herself in a towel and runs downstairs. She opens the door to Fred, the next door neighbor. Before she says a word, Fred says, "I'll give you $800 to drop that towel.."
After thinking for a moment, she drops it and stands naked in front of Fred. After a few seconds, Fred hands her $800 and leaves.Wrapping … (17 comments)

north shore: the rest IS still unwritten! - 02/11/09 02:24 AM
Listening to the radio this morning, a song from Natasha Bedingfield came on.  For the first time, I paid some attention to the lyrics of this song, that I'd heard many times.  It may be a pop song, but the lyrics are very philosophical, and they make sense.
"I am unwritten, can't read my mind, I'm undefined        I'm just the beginning, pen's in my hand, ending unplanned"
"Today IS where your book begins        The rest is still unwritten."
Imagine, if you will, some potential scenarios, over which you DO have control:

north shore: Bill Gates vs. General Motors - 02/09/09 04:33 AM
At a computer exposition (COMDEX), Bill Gates recently compared the computer industry with the auto industry by stating:"If only GM had kept up with technology, like the computer industry has.  If they had we would all be driving cars that cost only $25.00,  and got over 1,000 miles to the gallon."
Clearly this irked those in charge in Detroit and in response, General Motors issued the following press release stating:
Bill Gates has suggested that if the American Auto Industry had followed the path of the American Computer industries we'd be driving very inexpensive cars, which got many many miles … (20 comments)

north shore: Dear Scammer from Nigeria - 02/08/09 07:25 AM
Dear Mr. or Mrs. Scammer
I'm sure I owe you some apologies:
I'm sorry for replying that I am happy to engage in a bizarre business deal with you knowing full well it isn’t real. I'm sorry you had to print a horrible fake check. I'm sorry you paid $4.90 UPS’ing it to me overnight. I'm sorry for taking a few days to get back to you after I got the check just to ask you for your phone number which you can’t give me. I knew that and still I emailed you for the phone number. I'm sorry that I … (34 comments)

north shore: Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the sludge - 02/08/09 01:28 AM
Did you think I was done with Rod Blagojevich?  Not likely.  At least, not yet.
Days after Rod has appeared on Late Night with David Letterman "in the worst way"... you'd think the fervor would have died down.  Not so much.  A recent visit to Ebay, the online auction site, shows that when typing Blagojevich into the search line, 131 items show up.  Are you ready to shop?  Let's see what we can buy these days with our PayPal account.
A "Buck Flagojevich" bumper sticker going for 99¢... that's a good start, no bids yet..  A Blagojevich Inaugural Invitation with 7 … (9 comments)

north shore: Google Ocean - 02/07/09 01:24 AM
For those of you, like me, who are Google Earth addicts. We now have a new feature from Google, called Google Oceans, that allows us to explore the surface and the depths of those parts of the Earth that are covered with water. (That's a lot of parts!).
Watch this video to learn more about Google Ocean, and then go check it out! It's another fun, and educational program from Big Brother, er... I mean Google! Enjoy.

north shore: How to "Drop the Kids off at the Pool"... at Work - 02/06/09 03:33 AM
Many of us work in large offices, with dozens if not hundreds of other agents.  And we're often all sharing the same single bathrooms with only a few stalls.  Sometimes we're sharing those same bathrooms when clients are there, and taking a semi-public poop (euphemistically called "dropping the kids off at the pool" by the semi-infamous Jessica Simpson), can be seriously intimidating.
We've all kicked back at our desks or cubicles and suddenly felt something brew down below. Now while our jobs are flexible enough, to allow us to take a quick trip homeward, when needed, it doesn't always work out … (37 comments)

north shore: Wax and Herbal T - 02/06/09 02:00 AM
I love the creativity of this one.
I'm not a huge fan of Rap Music, but this one caught my attention. It's a little different, and somewhat irreverent (even for Rap Music). Using a collection of household items to sample their sounds, they build a cacophonous collection of clattering junk* they appropriately call "low budget".
They: "We make beats with a bunch of dumb shit... and we turn the shit into a club hit".
The sound is good, the lyrics are interesting (and understandable).  It's got a good beat, it's easy to dance to... I give it a 73.

north shore: Governor F-Word's Facebook-25 - 02/05/09 04:57 AM
Once you've been tagged, you are supposed to write a note with 25 random things, facts, habits, or goals about you. You have to tag the person who tagged you. If I tagged you, it's because I want to know more about you.
25 Things that you didn't want to know about the Elvis-haired Ex-governor of Illinois.
1. I'm the guv.  period.
2. Well, I was the guv.  (dang)
3. I'm innocent... really.... that's the first thing you should know... in fact, If I could do it over again, I'd number this one number one.  'Cause that's the first thing … (13 comments)

north shore: 14 Ways to lower your blood pressure - 02/05/09 02:32 AM
1   ACCEPT that some days you're the windshield, and some days you're the bug.  You can't always control which day you're which. Get used to it and get over it.
2   ALWAYS keep your words soft and sweet.  You never know when you may be forced to "eat them".
3   ALWAYS read stuff (books and magazines) that will make you look good (or at least, won't make you look bad) if you should, by chance, die while reading it.  (Local Realtor dies, while sitting in his Barcalounger, while reading the latest issue of Jigantic Jugs... News at 10:00)

north shore: the original American Idol! - 02/04/09 02:44 AM
This is a bit of high-tech wonder, that crossed my inbox today, and I can't help myself, I must share it.  It's a wonder of modern technology, and while it's a bit fuzzy... it's well worth your awe.  It appears so seamless, and real, and that's the part that makes it so incredible, that it just has to be seen.
Who knows, it may inspire me to change my Icon again.  Click on the link, which will cause a "wmv" file to download... it's a long download, but I think it's worth it.  Let me know what YOU think.

north shore: my forehead has grown! - 02/04/09 01:45 AM
I've recently noticed that my forehead appears to have grown (or moved).  The distance between my eyebrows (yes, those caterpillars over my eyes), and the beginning of my hairline, has increased dramatically since my earlier years.  Now, I know they say that 'grass doesn't grow on a busy street' (the anthem of bald men)... but this is beginning to
concern me.  Eventually, if this trend continues, my hairline will not even be visible when viewing me from the front! (which in my opinion, is a far more flattering vantage point).
When measuring my forehead with a micrometer (the only proper way … (14 comments)

north shore: We're havin' a heat wave - 02/04/09 01:22 AM
This morning, the sun is shining, the sky is a brilliant blue, not a cloud in the sky.
Of course there are no clouds in the sky.  They have the common sense to stay in, 'cause it's to freakin' cold!
I knew, that living in the Chicago area was not like living on the equator.  We get a fair bit of cold weather.
But look at this morning's map.  Okay, Minnesota is taking the brunt of it... (you can see the dark purpleish bruise-like colour hanging over Minnesota,) but they're Minnesota... they're used to it.  The Minnesota state motto is "You … (8 comments)

north shore: Suicide, Murder, Accidental Death, Homicide? I'm so confused? - 02/03/09 04:45 AM
This is an urban legend that has been cruising around the internet, since 1994.  Even though I cannot verify it's veracity, I thought it was a good enough story to pass along.  It's enough to confuse even the most steadfast sleuth.  It's long, but try to follow along.
On March 23,1994 the medical examiner viewed the body of Ronald Opus and concluded that he died from a shotgun wound to the head. Mr. Opus had jumped from the top of a ten story building intending to commit suicide. He left a note to that effect, indicating his despondency. As he … (13 comments)

north shore: excuse me, is that a brick wall? - 02/03/09 03:29 AM
Okay, I admit it...
I'm a little bit of an obsessive personality.  I don't do anything half-way, when I do something, I jump in with both feet. When i first joined Zillow Discussions, way back in 2007, I quickly found myself caught up in answering questions.  It appeared the general public was out there asking real estate questions, and nobody was responding.  So there I was, the great American real estate hero to the rescue.
Of course, with Zillow Discussions, it soon became apparent that answering a question, also meant being prepared to defend that answer, as anonymous gadfly after anonymous … (22 comments)

north shore: If you give me half that pack of matches, everyone will be pals!! - 02/02/09 05:13 AM
This is an excerpt from a piece that has been incorrectly attributed to Dennis Miller (who used to be on Saturday Night Live quite a long time ago)... but in actuality it was really written by Larry Miller a humourist from the Daily Standard, and appeared on April 22, 2002.  Here is the full article.  (Whosoever Blesses Them), by Larry.
What with the Israeli/Palestinian conflict back in the news recently, I thought it might be appropriate for this mini-essay to see the light of day once more.  What follows is that excerpt which made it's way virally around the world, through … (0 comments)
