north shore: What, Me Worry? - 02/01/09 05:53 AM

Okay... I found this online, and it was a little sceeeeery!!
Look at the middle morph... (which I've enlarged below) it looks soooooo much like both of them (of course it IS both of them).
This is a really good, high-quality morph...  and it makes me very very nervous.  Whaddya think?

north shore: Lao Shanghai, Lao Beijing, or Lao SzeChuan? - 02/01/09 01:01 AM
My wife, Amy and I had reservations, Friday night, to join some friends of ours (let's call them Mark & Kim... 'cause that's their names) at a very nice Chinese restaurant in ChinaTown, here in Chicago.
We live in the northern suburbs of Chicago, so a trip to 1800 South, in Chicago, is not a daily event. Mark had made the reservations, as he'd heard the restaurant was really good, and worth the trip.  Mark, being the analytical type, had researched carefully, checked all the local review sites, and determined that since we'd just celebrated Chinese New Years, a good Chinese … (10 comments)

north shore: Bad news is good news? - 01/30/09 01:17 AM
This morning's financial indicators show that the economy shrank at a 3.8% pace by the end of 2008.  This is the worst percentage in 25 years.  That's the "bad news".  The "good news" is that economists were anticipating that the indicators were going to show a shrinkage of around 5 percent or worse.
So, it's bad... but better than they expected.  Does that mean that we should be encouraged??  That we're beginning to see a turnaround?  Not necessarily.  The same prognosticators who predicted 5%, are now predicting that the first quarter of 2009 will be the worst quarter of our current … (8 comments)

north shore: Backwards? - 01/30/09 12:40 AM
Apparently this morning's big news is that Angelina Jolie was caught wearing her evening gown backwards at the SAG awards.
Has Barack Obama news already run out of steam?  Have we run out of stories about our limping economy... no more layoffs... no more terrible news about the housing industry (thanks for that)... all we have left is that Angelina Jolie was wearing her gown backward?
And if Angelina is really wearing that gown backward... she does it very, very well.  In fact, looking at the difference between Angelina wearing it backward, and the model wearing it properly... I have … (9 comments)

north shore: Charlie Crone Day? - 01/29/09 01:39 AM
I am an avid reader of the comics in the daily newspaper.  I am not a fair-weather friend, who only reads the Sunday funnies.  I read the comics daily, and I typically read them first, before even reading the front page.
Reading the comics in the morning is, to me, as drinking a cup of joe is to a committed coffee drinker.
A missing Sunday funnies section, can truly ruin my day.
For those of you who read the funnies too, you may have noticed a quirky strip named "Shoe".  It's about a newspaper editor who is also a "bird"... in … (11 comments)

north shore: On this day in history! - 01/28/09 12:14 AM
At 11:38 a.m. eastern standard time, the 28th of January (this day in history), 1986, the space shuttle Challenger lifted off from Cape Canaveral, Florida, and Christa McAuliffe was on her way to becoming the first U.S. civilian to travel into space. McAuliffe, a 37-year-old high school social studies teacher from New Hampshire, won a competition that earned her a place among the seven-member crew of the Challenger. She underwent months of shuttle training but then, beginning January 23, was forced to wait six long days as the Challenger's launch countdown was repeatedly delayed because of weather and technical problems. Finally, … (14 comments)

north shore: Once in a cold Kayak - 01/27/09 09:27 AM
This is the continuation of my series intended to bring humour to the active rain community.
Jokes that are, above all, clean (just in case you want to relate them to a client)
Easy to remember, (recognizing that our Realtor demographic is aging... just a tiny bit... and memory is the second thing to go... I don't remember what the first thing is).
And they need to be funny... so many of the jokes we hear are NOT funny...
And this one is short... too.   Here we go:

so they lit … (16 comments)

north shore: To boldly go where no man has gone before... - 01/27/09 12:45 AM
A recent newspaper article noted that Gene Roddenberry, the creator of the popular Television Series and Movie franchise "Star Trek", and his wife Majel, will have their cre-mains (remains from cremation) sent into space by a company that specializes in "memorial spaceflights".
They are scheduled to launch Gene and Majel on their last "Trek" sometime in 2010.  (Get it?  Their last "Trek"... you know... star trek? their last trek? oh, never mind) The cremains will be sealed into capsules designed to take the rigors of space.  Launched into space by a rocket, which will carry the capsules, along with tributes from … (18 comments)

north shore: Uncovered a local treasure. - 01/27/09 12:24 AM
I recently showed a property that had a Ski Jump in the neighborhood.  In fact the house was practically in the shadow of the gargantuan Olympic Style Ski Jump.  It is 70meters high (over the hill... which is about 200+ feet tall).  These are actual photo of the jump, and you can see how it overhangs one of the local roads.
There are no mechanics, no elevator, or mechanical stairway... you have to get to the top the old-fashioned way... you have to walk.
The house we looked at is behind us by about 100 yards, or so.  The jump is … (13 comments)

north shore: the most important meal of the day - 01/26/09 12:26 AM
They say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day.  The way we start out day will be the precursor as to how well our day goes.
A good breakfast, will lead to a good day.
Well, to the left is the information on the product (yes, 1 product) I had for breakfast.  Many would say it's the quintessential breakfast food, and yet when I turned to the side of the package... I was a bit surprised to find that it has almost no nutrient value, and 120 freakin' calories.
I'm not gonna tell you what it was, yet.  … (26 comments)

north shore: Parts is Parts.... ain't they ? - 01/24/09 12:41 AM
My wife and I went to a Vietnamese restaurant last night (for those in the  area... it was Tank Noodle on Argyle and Broadway).  As we were perusing the menu, she seemed somewhat amused, and said to me... "look at #50 on the menu".  The waiter overheard her and said "You want number FIFTY???    Whoaa!!", clearly impressed with her choice.
"No, I DON'T want number fifty" she replied... I looked at the item on the menu... it was a common Vietnamese-style dish... a large bowl of soup, with many ingredients and many spices...  but one of the ingredients had struck her … (17 comments)

north shore: Reverse it. Yes we can! - 01/22/09 03:44 AM
This is an unbelievably cool YouTube video that was written and created by a 20-year old. It starts out rather depressing... but stick with it... it's worthwhile viewing, and taking in.

I'm so impressed with the thought and care with which this was created, and the creativity and clever use of language. With 20-year-olds like this, heading into the future, we can have hope. Yes we can!

north shore: You know you're my favorite, right? (Don't tell your sister) - 01/22/09 12:11 AM
My daughter, Elizabeth (Liz) raised a concern, the other day, that she was getting "short shrift" on my blog, and her sister Sarah was getting more coverage.  I looked through my blog posts, and dang if she wasn't right.  Sarah had way more coverage, since she had recently been married, and then taken an extended trip to Bangkok.  But wait, I'm talking about Sarah again.
In an effort to ameliorate that inequity, I posted Equal Time.  The daughter in question has not yet commented.  In fairness, it's highly likely that the "daughter in question" hasn't even SEEN the post yet, since … (37 comments)

north shore: Equal Time - 01/21/09 06:09 AM
It has come to my attention that my blog has paid closer attention to my older, married-daughter, than to my younger daughter.  How, you may ask, did this come to my attention?
Well, my younger daughter (Let's call her Liz) invited my wife (let's call her Amy, 'cause that's her name) and I, along with my older daughter and her new husband (let's call them Sarah and Chris) over to her new apartment for dinner.  It was her first formal dinner at the new place, and she wanted to have us all over.  She served a wonderful "beef bourguignon", but substituted … (19 comments)

north shore: Inauguration Trivia - 01/20/09 06:26 AM
On an auspicious day like today, I thought it'd be interesting to view a little inauguration trivia.

• Barack Obama used Abraham Lincoln's inaugural bible to take his oath of office.
• Thomas Jefferson was the only president to walk to and from the inauguration.  He was also the only president to be inaugurated at the Capital!
• John Quincy Adams was the first president to be sworn in wearing long trousers.
• Dwight Eisenhower's 1953 parade was covered by a 24-year-old reporter on the Washington Times-Herald as the "Inquiring Camera Girl". Her name was Jacqueline Bouvier, eventually to become … (12 comments)

north shore: Apology for Interruption of Service - 01/19/09 09:40 AM
Dear World:We, the United States of America, your top quality supplier of the ideals of liberty and democracy, would like to apologize for our 2001-2008 interruption in service.
The technical fault that led to this eight-year service outage has been located, and the software responsible was replaced November 4. Early tests of the newly installed program indicate that we are now operating correctly, and we expect it to be fully functional on January 20.
We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the outage. We look forward to resuming full service and hope to improve in years to come. We thank you … (20 comments)

north shore: 100 Quotes: The Legacy of a Man - a dream realized. - 01/19/09 08:55 AM
Today is an appropriate day to give you a list of quotes that have been attributed to Martin Luther King, Jr.
it' a long list... that took me much of a day to put together.   For those of you familiar with Dr. King's legacy, they will sound familiar.  For those of you less familiar, or totally unfamiliar with Dr. King's speeches and writings... do yourself a favour and peruse this list.  It's a formidable body of work, and by no means represents Dr. King's speechifying.  It's merely the tip of the iceberg.

north shore: Some "little known facts" about Martin Luther King - 01/19/09 01:05 AM
I imagine, today, on a day when we honour Martin Luther King, Jr., that there will be a few posts about Dr. King.  Some of them will talk about his humanity, some his self sacrifice, and many will discuss his "dream".  I'm going to leave those posts to others.  I tend to deal in the trivial... and the lesser known.
I ran across these little-known facts, and was not aware of many of them, so I thought I'd share them with AR.  And no more appropriate day, than today.  You may know some of them... you may have forgotten a few... … (8 comments)
