intermountain west: Seismic skew from the West Yellowstone end of the Intermountain West - 11/25/13 05:37 AM
Seismic skew from the West Yellowstone end of the Intermountain West
My hobby has me observing seismic events (earthquakes) for the Intermountain Corridor (Utah to Yellowstone) on a weekly basis (168 hour period).
My intention always is to inform, never to predict or alarm.
A week is a short time in earth history, but it provides a manageable duration for hobby observation.
This week West Yellowstone featured as though it was trying to be the only deb at the ball.
For the 91 events for the week, West Yellowstone MT accounted for 53 of them with a few others in MT … (2 comments)

X marks the spot - Sandy Utah

I like to think that I am really involved in my hobby activities especially the low cost, or no cost ones.  Observing seismic activity (earthquakes) in seven day intervals in the Intermountain West with me located in the middle of the observed area suits my criteria. My information comes from the University of Utah Seismic Station just up the road in Salt Lake City UT.
This precise information is updated regularly as it is reported. I could check hourly and often find new results. My choice of weekly intervals allows me easy observations … (5 comments)

What's with a bump or two every so often
Everyone should have a hobby. Mine just happens to be observing seismic events (earthquakes).  My area of interest is the Intermountain Corridor (Utah to Yellowstone). Draw an X from corner to corner ~ the cross-over indicates where I live in Sandy UT. This gives me involvement in my observations.
Since waiting for seismic events is about as appealing as watching paint peel, I take my observations for weekly intervals from information provided by the US Seismic Service located at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City (just up the road … (12 comments)

intermountain west: Week's seismic activity in the Intermountain West - 11/16/12 02:10 AM
Week's seismic activity in the Intermountain West

Seismic Events (earthquakes) fascinate me. They confirm to me that we exist on a living planet. My hobby is observing seismic events over a period of a week for the Intermountain West (Utah and Yellowstone Regions).

The map of the observed area places me, in Sandy UT, right in the middle of this active earthquake region. My interest in seismic activity is to inform, never to alarm.

I obtain my information from the US Seismic Service located at the University of Utah. Each event is accompanied with plentiful data.

intermountain west: Fairly quiet in the Intermountain Corridor. - 08/28/12 02:16 AM
Fairly quiet in the Intermountain Corridor. This has been a fairly quiet week for seismic activity (earthquakes) in the Intermountain Corridor, a mere 28 events ~ all in the micro range, although a 2.9 at Big Water UT and a 2.8 at Lechee AZ are knocking at the 3.0 boundary of minor earthquakes.

My hobby: observing the seismic activity of the Intermountain Corridor (Utah to Yellowstone) in periods of one week. I chose this defined area to observe because I live in the middle of it in Sandy UT. In portraying my excitement for my hobby, my intent is always to inform, never … (0 comments)

Like scattering confetti in the Intermountain West, a shake or two...
A minor earthquake (a 3.1) a few hour hours ago at Kanosh UT, 29 seismic events (earthquakes) for the week in the Intermountain West (Utah to Yellowstone) 28 in the micro category, 22 of the events for the week within the borders of Utah, 6 of those events near Huntington UT. Our portion of the seismic event map produced by the US Seismic Service, located at the University of Utah looks like a confetti scatter, making the Yellowstone part looks like it has been napping this last week

Just like the Olympics
Talk about getting its nose in a knot by being outdone last week by a 3.6 minor earthquake in Emery UT, West Yellowstone WY replied late last evening with a 3.2 also in the minor range, and the biggest for the week, in a time when they just edged out Utah 24 -20 in all events (earthquakes) for the same period.
Gardiner MT had registered an early 2.3. but this was held in check by Smithfield UT also with a 2.3 micro two days later. Micro range was the norm for the week.
