This is a fish caught by my awesome nephew Jamie. We call Jamie the "Fish Whispherer." He can catch fish when no one else can! He just offered to bring us some Salmon tonight that he caught yesterday! He sent us a picture from his phone...he had cleaned the fish and had it all fileted out.
Our favorite quick Salmon recipe: filet the fish, lay it on aluminum foil on a cookie baking sheet, put on a layer of mayonaise about 1/4 inch thick. Then cover the mayonaise with some brown sugar, then slice some lemons and place on top. … (2 comments)

It was a gorgeous morning at our new little cabin on the Washougal River. There was a light mist layered across the water. I had taken a cup of coffee down to sit on the rocks on the side of the river to watch the salmon running upstream to spawn. It was a glorious sight to see the salmon truly r-u-s-h-i-n-g through the rock rapids to try to push themselves past the shallow parts of the river. In doing this, they put up a six foot high spray as they muscled their way through the rushing rapids.

With less snowpack and rain, the Washougal River water level seems lower than usual. There is less water "traffic" coming by on the river. We live here on the Washougal River. Kayaks, Inner Tubes and Salmon all enjoy our river area.
Kayaks:

Will the newest changes in the Fema law, (HFIAA, Home Flood Insurance Affordability Act) affect the Washougal River home owners? Yes. I'm not an insurance agent nor a lender so please do your "buyer due dilligence" to make good financial decisions for you.
Pricing changes on your insurance premiums will depend on your annual days of residence in the home. And....not all of the Washougal River has been "flood mapped" yet.

If you live in Washougal and live on a waterfront....or if you live on the banks of the Washougal River, you may wonder if your property will experience a flood? (There are a couple different descriptions of waterfront: creek, pond, pool or river.) In this blog, I'm speaking specifically about the Washougal River. It does get very high sometimes. Along about Memorial Day...the Washougal River starts warming up enough to jump in and swim. It is snow-fed and spring fed too. Be careful about swimming, etc. before the water warms up...it can be downright icy!

The Columbia River leading into the Washougal River is called "The Camas Slough." (Slough is pronounced "slew") Yesterday, August 29, 2013...my nephew, "the fish whisperer" told me that over 15,000 Chinook crossed up into the channel heading up the Washougal River to spawn. Yes, there are lines of fishermen and women trying to catch just one of them! They have parked their cars up above by the railroad bridge, brought their lawnchairs and coolers and claimed a spot along the banks of the Columiba/Washougal River.

You either LOVE IT or you HATE IT. Washougal MX Races 2013! The races happen the third weekend in July every year! I know people who come from all over the United States to participate or just to watch the fired-up action of the Washougal River Motorcross!! Washougal is a great place to live and the Motorcross is part of what makes us fun!!

Washougal River Sandy Swimming Hole is a popular place to swim and picnic!
This great swimming area is located on Shepherd Rd. and it's only a few blocks to downtown Washougal. The beach is usually full of families, teens and children playing in the Washougal River. The river kinda splits there and there is an "island" there where children play in the "rapids." In the summer, the Sandy Swimming Hole is brimming with people seeking sun, sand and fun.
