The One That Got Away, Again!
There's a beautiful hawk, we believe to be a red tail hawk that visits our neighbour's backyard and ours. He is so magnificent, big and sits up proud.
He's also a very elusive old thing too.  We have tried and tried to get a photo shot of him.  Yesterday he eluded us once again. 50 ft. away from us he was pretending to search for a mouse, but even though we were still inside the house he was really watching us!
We were setting up to shoot the shot behind glassed doors and he knew. He gracefully … (6 comments)

Nikon 7000 - Anyone Know How To Work It?

As the photo industry moved from film to digital our Nikon F90 ended up in the camera bag never to see light again.  Over the last several years we have been using a Panasonic point and shoot.  Our number one use of a camera is to take pictures of the houses we have listed to sell.  For the most part our pictures turned out pretty good after a little doctoring in programs like Picnik or PicMonkey (never could justify $700+ for Photoshop and the learning curve). Taking interior pictures in our … (17 comments)

The Picnik is over... Official Announcement

It has been a couple of years since we signed up to Active Rain, learning how to do things is right up there near the top why we continue to be active with Active Rain. Woke up this morning to find out that we were losing one of our friends... "picnik".  We were introduced to "picnik" by a fellow Active Rainer, a place where we could have some fun with our pictures, and fix them up also.  The best thing about "picnik" was that it was easy to use and only cost $25 for … (19 comments)

photography: "Russel Ray Photo January Contest" How Do I Fix This Picture? - 01/12/12 12:54 AM
"Russel Ray Photos January Contest" How Do I Fix This Picture? Have you joined into the "Russel Ray Photos Contest", if not slip over and get started.  First of all, it is not the usual contest for AR points, the prize is a copy of Corel PaintShop Pro X4 that can change your ho hum pictures into great ones.  Eric Cooper who works with Russel Ray and Jim Frimmer has been showing us how to use the program.  The real prize for most of us is pictures that you are not ashamed of showing off. Our first kick at the cat … (10 comments)

"Russel Ray Photos January contest." Say Hello to Simon It's been a couple of years now that we have been posting our blogs on Active Rain.  We have seen several blogs asking "What is Active Rain?", we are not going to get into that right now except to say that one thing, it is a great place to learn things. Eric Cooper, Russel Ray and Jim Frimmer have started a photography contest (check it out).  It is not the usual contest asking you to send in your best picture, quite the opposite, they want you to send in your not so … (20 comments)

Be Part of a World Wide Event With A Click of a Button

The world is coming together on Sunday October 10, 2010 at 10:10 am GMT.  Brett Brownell has been organizing a group to share through their viewfinder what they see at 10.10.10.  A sunrise, a sunset, your dog or cat, your son or daughter or just what is in your world on that day and at that time.
We were just looking at the World Wide Moment website and there are 1,133 people registered from 57 different countries.
Pop over to the World Wide Moment website and register … (27 comments)

Can You Guess What This Picture Is & How It Was Taken?
One thing about photography is that you can put a camera in just about anyone's hand and with the click of a button "presto" you have a masterpiece.
Well, we are not sure that this is a masterpiece but we thought we would give you the opportunity to guess exactly what it is and to give a short explanation of how it was taken.

Give it your best shot, we will tell you all about it tomorrow.

Answer - Name That Photo - Give It A Shot

It didn't take long for the trained eye of the Active Rain Team to come up with an answer.  We were walking along a path near the water and spotted what we thought would be a great "Name That Photo"
This morning we posted this picture:

Excuse the garbage, seems you can't go anywhere nowadays without seeing garbage.  Matter of fact when we took the picture we didn't see it.  Just held the camera in position and pushed the old button.  Guess we should have looked into … (14 comments)

Name That Photo - What's The Whole Picture Here

It's time for all you Active Rainers to put your heads together and figure this one out.  There are several clues in the picture to help you tell us "what's this is all about". Now don't tell us pretty flowers, you know it has to be harder than that.  So, what is it?, who is it? and where is it?  Be specific.

Friday Photo - What Do We Have Here? Have you ever noticed, when a bunch of people get together, they will do just about anything.  Just like sheep... couldn't resist showing this shot we got yesterday seeing it's Friday Photo day.

photography: Birds of Prey... Not Into Sharing - 01/24/10 02:16 AM
Birds of Prey... Not Into SharingDuring our trip earlier this month to Marco Island we were returning to the condo one afternoon to find this fine feathered friend feasting on a fresh catch of fish.
He would let us get pretty close rather than fly away without finishing lunch.
We weren't going to get any closer... look at those claws, didn't want to be on the wrong side of those.

photography: WHAT IS THIS? - 06/05/09 03:21 AM
Every picture has a story, this one certainly does... do you know what this is?   Look closely, do you see it.  It's like looking at the clouds and seeing different shapes.  Let your imagination wander.

Check back later and we will tell you. What will your story be? Have a great Friday Foto day!
