national debt: Our National Debt Just Doubled!

We Just Doubled our National Debt "It's good for us!" "There was no choice." "It had to be done." Everyone keeps trying to tell me that what was casually announced on Sunday -- when nobody would be paying any attention -- that the government would be bailing out Fannie and Freddie -- would be "a good thing!" Why do I feel like I just swallowed that yukky cough medicine that my grandmother spooned down our throats when I was a little kid -- the kind that constricted my already sore throat like a really dry wine.
