One of the wonderful things about living on Maui is the incredible community, which gathers together to lend support and encouragement to those in need. Several members of our community have gathered together to present a "Dinner of Aloha" to raise funds to assist the family of Olivia Bianco, a young girl from Maui recently diagnosed with cancer. Olivia is in home hospice care, and proceeds from the dinner will assist the family with mounting medical and living costs. Can a 10 year-old girl Save the World? Well, maybe she can't save it, but she can change it. One animal at a time. My friend Stuart, a local police officer, told me about his daughter, Kaylee, who had started her own Retirement Stables here on Maui. She came to him with an idea: she wanted to provide a safe place for animals that might otherwise face an uncertain future. With her father's support and encouragement, Kaylee has taken in dozens of animals--horses, sheep, pigs, goats, and chickens. The Lahaina Restoration Foundation will host "Lahaina Plantation Days, Then and Now" from July 30th to August 1st, 2009. The event, which pays tribute to West Maui's history as a Plantation Town, will feature entertainment by both cultural groups and popular local musicians along with historical displays and exhibits. Today was my last West Maui Caravan serving as West Maui Regional Director for our Realtor's Association of Maui. During this past year, I have seen a tremendous transformation in this weekly event and in my fellow Realtors.
