Shackleford Horses

Shackleford Banks is one of many little islands that make up the Outer Banks of North Carolina.  While visiting Shackleford Banks, you may feel like you are sitting on a little slice of heaven.  Surrounded by water, sea oats blowing in the gentle breeze, your toes in the sand and the beautiful Wild Horses casually strolling around you on the beach...Life is Good!  The horses may look like colts due to their size, but they are full grown.  They have been here since the 16th century when  their Spanish Ancestors made Shackleford Banks their home.  Fortunately for all of us who love the area so … (3 comments)

The Big Book Nook in Pine Knoll Shores

I absolutely LOVE books!  I also LOVE recycling!  The Big Book Nook, ran by a wonderful group of volunteers for Friends of the Library - Bogue Banks, is the newest and one of the greatest additions (in my opinion) to Pine Knoll Shores.  I can buy great books, support a great cause, and it's recycling at the same time.

It may not look like much from the photo to the left, but when I walked through the door this morning.... I was totally smitten.

The Big Book Nook is filled with slightly used books & … (9 comments)

Hiking in Eastern North Carolina - Cedar Point Tideland Trail

My family and I are on a mission to find every hiking trail in the Coastal Carolina Area.  Every weekend (when possible), we head out on adventures.  We have found some wonderful places on our adventures, and love to share them with our friends and neighbors and anyone else who might be interest in Hiking Trails on the Crystal Coast.

This past weekend, we headed to a place that my good friend, Brenda Roney, told me about.  Cedar Point Tideland Trail, located in the Croatan National Forest, may just … (7 comments)

What does your Mailbox say about you?

Each morning as I drive to the office (yes, I go to the office everyday), I feel blessed that when I look to my left, I see the Atlantic Ocean and to my right are glimples of Bogue Sound.  Life on an island is pretty special (even in Hurricane season).

Many of the mailboxes I pass are a reflection of life at the Crystal Coast... Pelicans, Egrets, Sailboats, Flamingos (although I have never seen an actual flamingo here), Lighthouses, etc.  Yesterday, I drove around and captured a few of my favorites, and … (74 comments)

Remember the Golden Rule?
Well, the folks on the Crystal Coast sure do!

As many of you know, we are recovering from a Hurricane here on the Crystal Coast of North Carolina.  Many REALTORS® have no office to work in right now, due to flooding and other damage.  Our office was flooded just enough to ruin the carpet and create a really bad smell.  The restoration company was in yesterday morning, cleaning & treating for mold and I had just stepped into the office to find that my Desktop had crashed when they threw the breakers (and … (9 comments)

Hurricane Irene Landfall & Aftermath - Crystal Coast, North Carolina

My family and I (Including 4 cats and 1 dog), evacuated the Crystal Coast last Friday to avoid Hurricane Irene.  At the time, she was predicted to hit us as a Cat 3 storm, and she was a BIG one!  The good news is, that she only hit us as a strong Cat 1, we were safe in Raleigh, and she is now long gone.

As we drove NC Hwy. 70 back home on Sunday, we were tired, stressed and anxious to see what our beautiful little town … (20 comments)

Sunday Scenes on the Crystal Coast

As most of you know, I love the view from the water.  Yesterday, we went boating with my sister and her family.  We headed out from the new boat ramp at Radio Island, and enjoyed a beautiful day at Cape Lookout.  The water was crystal clear yesterday, and the beach gorgeous as ever!  We did a little swimming, a little walking and a lot of treasure hunting.

Summertime, Summertime, Summertime.....

Summertime is the great time to live on the Crystal Coast!  Many of our activities take place outside.  We spend a lot more time at the beach or at one of the many parks that Carteret County has to offer.  We spend hours boating, fishing or just hanging out on one of the piers.  We spend our weekends attending outdoor festivals and concerts.  When we go out to lunch or dinner, we often enjoy our meals outside.  While the nice, gentle breeze off the Atlantic Ocean feels cool....The sun is shining hot and bright in the Carolina … (12 comments)

A Walk on the Beach with Amy!

As my family and I were walking to the beach, my six year old was stopping to read each and every sign (he's learning to read), and one sign in particular caught his eye at the outdoor shower.  It was a great opportunity to explain to him the importance of water conservation.  He had a hard time grasping the concept while looking out at the Atlantic Ocean, but I think he is starting to "Get It".  Every drop counts, and according to this sign,1 slow drip can waste 20 gallons of water daily.  … (14 comments)

It's Just Another Day...On the Crystal Coast

After a long day of Soccer games, grocery shopping and Laundry...I suggested that we head over to the Morehead City Waterfront for a nice walk along the boardwalk, followed by dinner at the Ruddy Duck Tavern, and then swinging on the docks while waiting for sunset.  It got a little chilly and we didn't quite make it to sunset, but we had a wonderful time.   The Crystal Coast of North Carolina is a fabulous place with so much to see and do.  After a day like today, we know just how very blessed … (9 comments)

If you live on the Crystal Coast of North Carolina, You may have sweetgum trees in your yard.  They seem to be in abundance here.  We have the priviledge of FOUR!  The spikey "gumballs" are not the most desirable thing to step on, and raking them is a real pain in the @#$%@.  I hear folks complaining about their Sweetgum trees ALL THE TIME!

Just Please Don't Throw me in the Briar Patch....

Yesterday was a beautiful day on the Crystal Coast of North Carolina.  Sunny with bright blue skies, and a toasty 58º degrees.   It was absolutely gorgeous.  So, when Marian, aka Mom, asked me to take photos of her new listing and then help her put up a sign at another new listing...I jumped at the chance.  Problem was...I got caught up in the photo opportunities and the sunshine, that Marian was left waiting for me in the office parking lot to put up a sign. OOPS!   Reminded me of the … (12 comments)
