A fabulous new hiking trail will be opening up on the Crystal Coast of North Carolina, and you can be one of the first to hike it!
The Friends of Fort Macon invite you to help Celebrate the opening of the 1st Phase of the Fort Macon Nature Trail. Mark your calendar for tomorrow morning, Saturday, October 10th, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. Meet at the Fort Macon Picnic/Beach Area and experience the unspoiled beauty of the park as you work your way through the Maritime Forest.

One of the best ways to enjoy the Crystal Coast of North Carolina... Is from the water. Kayaking is not only fun and relaxing (depending on how fast you row), it is great excercise and allows you to enjoy things from a different point of view.

For Labor Day, we decided to head out to Swansboro for our very first visit to Hammocks Beach State Park. Back in 1742, three brothers from Armagh, Ireland, stepped off the "Lydia" in Philadelphia. Their names were Jonathon (my GGGGGG Grandfather - or something like that), Joseph and Joshua Mooney! On Saturday, March 17th, 2012, from 9 am - 5 pm, The Crystal Coast will be celebrating the 21st Annual St. Patrick's Day Festival. The event, sponsored by the Emerald Isle Business Association, offers fun for the entire family. Patsy Pond Nature Trail
Yesterday morning, after a couple cups of coffee, My husband and I decided to get out of the house and do a little hiking. In an effort to see and do all the Crystal Coast has to offer, we ended up at Patsy Pond Nature Trail located in the Croatan National Forest... for the first time. We were so pleased that we did. Hiking 2.65 miles through the forest and around a beautiful pond, on a cold & windy day was the perfect way to spend the morning.

The Cow Cafe in New Bern, North Carolina If the Cow Cafe sounds like a fun place, that's because it is! We took Tanner to the Cow Cafe last week and we all LOVED IT!!!!!
After Spending a few hours at Tryon Palace, We were all hungry and looking for a nice place to break for a bite to eat. We walked a few blocks and found The Cow Cafe...We are so glad we did. Tryon Palace in New Bern, North Carolina
If you enjoy history, Tryon Palace takes you back to the 1700 & 1800's. If you don't enjoy history, but enjoy Beautiful gardens, Tryon Palace has plenty of those too. My family and I visited Tryon Palace in New Bern a few days ago, and thoroughly enjoyed every minute. Most of the building and homes can be toured at your leisure, so we took our time, wandered around the gardens for hours, took a lunch break, and went back for more touring.

While the days may still be hot...Summer will offically be over on September 21st. As we head into fall, Life is good on the Crystal Coast. In fact, fall is my favorite season here in Eastern North Carolina. No humidity and cool, crisp breezes in the morning force me to absolutely love sipping my coffee on the porch to begin each day. As the mother of a five year old, energetic, and curious little boy, I am always looking for interesting and exciting things to share with him. The beach was out of the question with dangerous Rip Currents this weekend, so after a quick google search on things to do with kids in the New Bern area, we decided on the New Bern Firemen's Museum.

Morehead City The Morehead City Parks and Recreation Department will once again sponsor the Morehead City celebration this 4th of July Weekend. The fireworks display will begin at around 9:15 pm on July 4th, 2010 from Sugarloaf Island. The Carolina Beach Band will perform from 7-8:30 pm on July 3rd and The Seaside Band will perform from 7-11:00 pm on July 4th at Jaycee Park, 9th and Shepard Streets. Vendors will be on hand to sell refreshments.
