hudson bend: A FRIDAY THE 13TH LISTING--BEWARE A SCARY TALE!
- 03/07/17 01:40 PM
I DON'T THINK I'M A SUPERSTITIOUS PERSON, but everyday superstitions do cause me to pause. I won't walk under a ladder or let a black cat cross in front of me if at all possible.
So when a listing of mine became ready to put on the market on Friday the 13th I did think about and it and discuss it with my client. We both decided it wasn't a big deal, and wanted to be on the market that weekend.
The house went quickly under contract! But just a short few days later...
The House Flooded...not just a small leak, a full blown, whole house (6 comments)
hudson bend: Sundancer Grill for Lakefront Dining-- "AMYuse Bouche"
- 02/15/17 04:10 PM
It took awhile of living around the Hudson Bend area for us to try Sundancer Grill. I think it had been a another restaurant back several years ago and with all the great dining in and around Austin, it just never made it on our radar. Also, lakefront restaurants don't always have a good food reputation. Sundancer Grill is an exception to the rule. I could tell I would love the restaurant almost the minute we drove up. Not only did it have great lake views, it was really cute with it's bright red and yellow nautical accents on a pristine white (4 comments)
My husband knew this job would take me away many weekends and interrupt some nights and vacations, but he likely did not expect all of his new duties and responsibilities:
Pounding listing signs into the ground because most of Austin is on limestone; Running our Annual Food Drive fliers around the neighborhood (because I threw my back out); Then picking up said Food Drive items from neighbors home (because my back was still out); Going on many, many, many trips (2 comments)
Down a secluded street you’ll find this hidden gem featuring majestic views of a greenbelt and the cliffs of Apache Shores. Nature in full view through the floor to ceiling windows all the way up to the pine cathedral ceiling. Private backyard with concrete decks which feature an outdoor fireplace and a separate grilling deck off the kitchen. The wide open concept kitchen, great room and dining boast matching stone fireplace and breakfast bar with a mesquite wood counter and solid wood columns. It also has a private master on the main floor with frameless slate (4 comments)
hudson bend: Less is Definitely More
- 01/09/17 01:17 PM
One thing I have noticed when working with listing clients is that the hardest thing for home sellers do is to depersonalize and edit down their belongings. Selling a home and moving are already some of life's biggest stresses so to add in editing down your belongings into the mix, the process can get to be way too much.
It can be debilitating It can be demoralizing It can be paralyzing
Why do people wait until selling their homes to start weeding out their belongings? I think it is mostly out of sight, out of mind. But also when getting rid of things you come full circle with those items and (3 comments)
Apache Shores is an extremely diverse community hidden from view off RR 620 and General Williamson. But behind Hudson Bend middle school and Maravilla lies the hills, valleys and lakefront of Apache Shores. The community is anything but cookie-cutter with mansions next to trailers and everything in between and home values just as diverse. What this community boasts won't fit in this short blog post but includes:
1) Riverside Park on Lake Austin which has a private boat dock and (2 comments)
hudson bend: The Power of Perseverance--Lessons Learned at the Nixon Library
- 12/27/16 05:31 AM
My father has been taking his now 14 year old grandson, my nephew, to presidential museums. His goal is to see all of them together and they only have 5 left to go! My nephew is a history buff and loves spending this time with his Papa. I've not been to very many of these incredible sanctums of history but on our family holiday trip to CA I went along.
Our initial voyage was to Nixon. This would have been my first president as I was born in 1969. My father was very active in Republican politics at the time as a Nixon supporter and delegate to the (6 comments)
hudson bend: The New Hudson's On The Bend--"AMYuse Bouche" #2
- 12/10/16 08:34 AM
One of the long-standing landmark destinations of our community here in and around Hudson Bend, has been closed down for the past several months. Well now it is finally back in very fine form.
Hudson's on the Bend has been known since the 80's as one of the finest restaurants in the Austin area. Before Austin became the foodie haven it is now, Hudson's was THE special event restaurant, where many went for birthday's, anniversaries and date nights.
The restaurant recently underwent a transformation under new owners. It used to feel like a remote cozy cabin. Now it feels like you are walking into a (3 comments)
hudson bend: Our Local Brewery is Infamous!
- 12/01/16 10:08 AM
Austin is now very well-known for the craft beer scene. All over our city, and the towns that surround it, you will find unique microbreweries with great beer and cool vibes. And almost every Saturday afternoon they are packed with people playing board games, listening to music and sampling grea t beer. We are so fortunate to have a (great) brewery in our little enclave of Hudson Bend in Austin TX. If you have never been to Infamous, or had their beer, you are in for a treat and should stop by soon!
Top reasons I love Infamous:

hudson bend: Queso vs. Queso Fundido: Los Pinos, Hudson Bend
- 11/30/16 12:29 PM
So many people come to Austin and become instant queso ambassadors. They talk non-stop about queso, post about queso, debate the best quesos and put it on absolutely everything.
And don't get me wrong, I like queso, but I truly LOVE Queso Fundido...especially the kind made at Los Pinos in Hudson Bend; Austin, TX.
This is not the nearly liquefied kind -of- cheese/ kind-of -not-cheese that is the signature of most queso. This is real, stringy, melty, steamy hot cheese that becomes just the base for the rest of the dish. Encased in the cheese are grilled and roasted peppers and onions. Those veggies are (3 comments)
hudson bend: Giving Back to Those Most In Need
- 11/30/16 11:19 AM
The charity closest to my heart is CASA of Travis County. I struggled for sometime trying to find my place giving back to this world. Many charitable organizations I have been a part of focused on raising money which is so extremely valuable, but I felt an great distance from the challenges of others. Learning about peoples struggles is one thing, getting involved hands on is another.
There is a lot of training and checks involved in becoming a CASA volunteer, as there should be. For those of you not familiar with CASA, here is an overview: --We are Court Appointed Special Advocates for children in (4 comments)
hudson bend: Lakeside Fried Chicken!
- 10/10/16 05:17 AM
One of the most recent additions to the culinary scene around Hudson Bend is Austin's home-town favorite Lucy's Fried Chicken. Lucy's owner James Holmes had great timing in taking over the previous Iguana Grill location, right as the water in Lake Travis began to rise. Now Lucy's offers lakeside views that rival The Oasis. The location is hard to miss whether you are driving by the bright neon sign on RR 620 or when boating by on Lake Travis with it's many bright red table umbrellas. The restaurant went through a real Lucy's makeover...now featuring a modern blue, red, and white decor inside and out. This (6 comments)
hudson bend: A Peek Inside the Courtyards of Maravilla
- 10/09/16 04:42 AM
Nestled in the hills of northwest Austin is a small boutique community located just behind the Hudson Bend Middle School called Maravilla. The neighborhood features around 80 homes, mostly Spanish or Mediterranean in style but each home is completely unique. As you meander around the community you'll notice private courtyards on the front of the homes with exquisite native landscaping and cascading fountains behind intricate iron or wooden gates. Behind the courtyard doors you will find residents enjoying their morning coffee or evening glass of wine in peaceful seclusion. You'll also find homes with lushly landscaped pools or third floor balconies and some even have separate guest casitas for family and friends to enjoy an (2 comments)
hudson bend: Good Things Await On "Scenic Overlook Trail"
- 10/03/16 12:13 PM
Right as you round the bend over Mansfield Dam one of the first neighborhoods to the south of RR 620 is The Canyons at Lake Travis. As you take the steep road up to the gates of the community, you start to get a glimpse of the beautiful tree-lined streets and hill country views accentuated in this exclusive neighborhood. Partners in Building officially started building home-sites in 2011. They are the only builder for the neighborhood which offers beautifully situated acreage lots featuring homes from 2,800 to almost 5,000 sq. feet. hudson bend: The Warm and Cool of Austin, TX
- 09/11/16 02:42 AM
We moved to Austin five years ago after a lifetime of living in the Midwest. We were in the unique position of being able to choose where we wanted to live. The only criteria for my husband was warm and my criteria was “cool”….meaning a unique and vibrant city with a myriad of things to do. Austin was the top on our list, although neither of us and spent very much time here. Austin’s reputation was so positive that on that alone we both knew we’d be happy there. Below lists some of the main reasons why I’m an Austin Enthusiast.

hudson bend: Check Out Canopy--A new home community in Hudson Bend
- 09/01/16 01:07 PM
Canopy at Hudson Bend As you've been driving down RR 620 near Hudson Bend you might have noticed the "Castle Rock Homes" signs near Eck Lane. This new neighborhood is called Canopy, a truly unique new home community still developing in Hudson Bend, Austin, TX. They officially opened this spring with a gorgeous new model home. What makes this community truly unique is that each home is a three story contemporary, with the third level opening to an enormous covered patio with views of Lake Travis. That bears repeating. Each of the 38 homes will have a view of Lake Travis from their third floor covered patios. And (2 comments)
Last night my husband and I had the honor of attending the Grand Opening of 827 Ray's located in Hudson Bend, Austin, TX.
The celebration was top notch and the turn out was even better with what seemed the whole community and beyond in attendance.
This gorgeous restaurant located right on RR 620, a stones throw from the temporarily shuttered Hudson's on the Bend, is exactly what our small community craved....a new, delectable dining experience. Ever since the "Coming Soon 827 Ray's" sign appeared on the doors of the old Hill Country Pasta House I have (3 comments)
hudson bend: Hudson Bend Area Food Drive
- 08/26/16 11:42 PM
Hudson Bend Area Labor Day Food Drive Each year my husband and I like to ensure we do something meaningful for a food related charity. In my past life as a marketing executive for a major food company I learned quite a bit about the issue of hunger and food insecurity in America. The ones most impacted are usually children. 1 in 6 people in America face hunger. The USDA defines 'food insecurity" as the lack of access, at times, to enough food for all household members. In 2014, households with children reported a significantly higher food insecurity rate than households without (1 comments)
