William Murray, a cooper purchased land on “Ye High Street” (Essex Str) and erected the house by July of 1687. By 1759 the property was defined as the Northern and Southern halves of his “mansion” and divided “as far as the middle chimney” – each half being owned by his sons, William and Jonathan, both coopers. The property remained in the Murray family until 1795 when the Southern end was conveyed to Ebenezer Slocum, a mariner. It was then conveyed in 1811 to Jonathan Andrew (a trader), Samuel Leach (a boatbuilder) and Jonathan Becket (a shipwright) and that is the last (1 comments)
