How does your city/town rate for -- walkability???> There is a great new service out there that tells you and all your possible vistors /buyers -- how "WAlk Able" your city or town is!! This is a great site -- you can enter your zip code -- or seller address and see how it rates. I checked mine for savannah,ga -- huntingdon location and found out we had a walk score of 87-- not too bad out of 100. Didn't find a 100 score but ran out of time--to keep checking other cities. Well it is official!! Disney will be shooting their new movie w/ Miley Cyrus ( daughter of Billy Ray) "The Last Song" in Savannah, Ga. --shooting is scheduled to start in June -- but have already met with some of the production people who are in town and looking for places for short term rentals. Finding places will be a challenge --since there are not to many short term rentals that are furnished and the ones that are - operate as Vacation get aways w/ weekly price structures-- but it will be a fun challenge. Here in savannah we are on a count down ----as i type in the am--3/15--we are only --2 days away from the 135th annual St. Patrick's Day Parade. The town is already streaming with vistors all decked in assorted colors of green and a variety of interesting green outfits! The Fountain in Forysth park has ben died green and is still sporting the green. The days leading up to the parade are full of pre-parties, and days of parties!! greetings--Cyclists, Tour fans--there will not be a tour de georgia--09. The Tour makers have decided --given the economic situation --and some problems with the 08 tour they are postpoing 09 and regrouping for 2010. It is a dissapointment for many--given that the tour started on Tybee Island , ga. and moved thru downtown savannah-,ga. -and seemed to be a great success as it moved thru georgia and beyond--during the 08 event. Have you ever experienced Christmas in Savannah?? If not you are missing a visual treat!! Imagine,-- lighted ,decorated squares--1.2miles of them in the historic district. Downtown, Broughton street with all there lights,free parking , stores and sales that you can't imagine. But don't just stay on broughton there are also a ton of shops to visit on liberty, oglethorpe, bull, whitaker, and all the streets in between. Well the Savannah, Chatham County, Ga. community just completed Relay for Life for the American Cancer Society on May 9th. For those of you that participate in your community I would welcome some ideas on what you are doing and some fundraising ideas for 09. The overall theme this year was Relay TV and I am guessing that -was the national theme. If you have never been on Tybee Island at the start of the summer season then you are missing all the fun. This coming weekend marks the Opening of the summer season-with the Beach Bum Parade-scheduled for Friday May 16th starting at 6:30 pm. But be warned, this is not your usually parade. Wear your bathing suit and bring out all your water pistols-and I mean the big water guns. This is a parade of a different sort -which only Tybee Island can do. I love savannah!! There is always something to do in this town from Jan to June. (then it gets hot, but still things to do) and it picks up again from Sept to December-with the Film Festival, Jazz Festival, and Blues Festival-and so many things are free! You wouldn't believe how many free events there are that you can take advantage of -1st Saturday on River Street, fire works every 1st Friday, Folk music the list goes on. For cycling fans in Georgia and elsewhere this is a great week of racing. The Tour de Georgia a weeklong cycling race with 7 stages -started it's run on Monday 4/21-from Tybee Island, Ga. ending later that afternoon in Downtown Savannah. The 71 mile, Stage 1 run -which double looped thru the city before ending at the Civic Center-saw excited crowds all along the race course. Approximately, 15 teams with 119 cyclists competed in the first leg of the Tour which ends in Atlanta, Ga. on Sunday -4/27. The 2nd leg of the tour on Tuesday was from Statesboro, Ga. Several weeks ago, I had the distinct privilege to be a volunteer for the Historic Savannah Foundation's 73rd Annual Tour of Homes and Gardens. As a head docent for the late march event (3/27-3/29) I was in charge of ushering visitors--thru a magnificent restoration at 19 West Gordon St. in the heart of Savannah's Landmark Historic District. The home built in 1872 --received the 2007 award for Historic preservation from the Historic Savannah Foundation--and after being there I know why.
