keep glenn heights beautiful: Do you know where to recycle those rechargeable batteries? - 01/28/13 01:20 AM
Luckily, I do!
By being a part of Keep Glenn Heights Beautiful, I am up to date on recycling locations for just about anything.
I came across Call2Recycle and they are an organization that provides locations for recycling rechargeable batteries and more.
I briefly went to their website and found the statistics for the US and Canada.
Per their website, USA has recycled 47% and Canada recycled 55% of rechargeable batteries and cellphones.
Please visit their website at http://www.call2recycle.org/ to read up on their recycling efforts.
There is alot of beneficial information on there.
I did a search for locations in my … (0 comments)

keep glenn heights beautiful: Keep Glenn Heights Beautiful- Clean up event was Great! - 04/17/12 08:23 AM
This past Saturday the citizens of Glenn Heights volunteered to clean up their city streets.  There was a great turn out of 50 volunteers.  We noticed this year the streets were not as dirty as the first year.  This leads us to believe that our efforst are paying off.
The estimates are in- 2070 lbs of litter was picked up from the streets and disposed of properly.  Wow!
225 hrs of work was put in by the volunteers.  A big thank you to the city staff for helping make this event run smoothly and without incident.
Residents also had the opportunity to take … (1 comments)

keep glenn heights beautiful: Information on recycling oil and oil filters- read on - 03/23/12 04:57 AM
Oil and oil filters should be disposed of properly.  One quart of oil disposed of improperly can pollute 250,000 gallons of drinking water.  Used motor oil never wears out.  Contaminants can be removed through a refining process.  This refining takes 70% less energy than the 42 gallons of high quality crude oil it takes to produce 2.5 quarts of new oil.
It is illegal to:
pour used oil on the ground
pour used oil down a drain or sewer
put used oil in the trash
apply used oil to roads for dust suppression
Retailers who sell motor oil are required to … (1 comments)

It has now been two years since we first had our first meeting for Keep Glenn Heights Beautiful.  Since then we have a full Board to include the Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer and Secretary.  We have monthly meetings to discuss upcoming events and ways to get new volunteers.
This year we decided to move forward with a new project.  The Adopt a Highway program.  In Texas, it all began in the Tyler District back in 1985.  And has been growing and getting stronger over the years.  The last numbers showed that 1.3 million volunteers have participated throughout America.  In Texas, more … (3 comments)

keep glenn heights beautiful: Keep Glenn Heights Beautiful- another great year. - 12/17/10 06:43 AM
This is our second year of contributing to the beautification of Glenn Heights.  Glenn Heights is a small city in comparison to the surrounding cities.  Its located in between Desoto, Red Oak and Lancaster.
So small that it does not have its own school system.  Students use Desoto and Red Oak ISD.
Our calendar of events included more participation from our youth population.  That is very impressive.  Who new that our children wanted to learn about recycling, Arbor Day, Earth Day and cleaning up its streets and parks.
January 2010- the committee worked on getting the necessary data and pictures for … (0 comments)

keep glenn heights beautiful: Keep Texas Beautiful in Glenn Heights, TX - 04/14/09 02:35 PM
Our first successful event has come and gone.
We had a nice turn out and everyone enjoyed lending a helping hand to Keep Glenn Heights clean.  The numbers are not in yet but I have a feeling we did good on the clean up.  Not only did we clean up our main streets but the community also came in truck loads with their trash to the dump site.
We kicked off the event on Friday, April 3rd and ended on Saturday, April 4th at 6pm.  At first we thought we would get rained out but that did not happen.  It started out a … (2 comments)
