It's been a while since I've written an update about my Dad's progress. Some of you know, but for those that don't....Dad spent 7 long months in the hospital. He was in SICU at Trinity Medical Center for 46 1/2 days, then 4 months in acute care at Select Specialty Hospital to wean him off the respirator, and another 4 weeks at Lakeshore Rehabilitation Hospital before finally getting to go home in late October, just a couple of months after his 83rd birthday!
Little Richard is almost 3, so this was his biggest Christmas yet!
He didn't want to see Santa, but he was a big helper with gifts anyway!
The boy has Toy Story fever and everything is "Buzz & Woody"
These guys were just part of the booty.....
He got a Buzz Lightyear snuggie that his mom is modeling.... (my daughter, Michelle)

dad: Starry Night......

When I look up to heaven tonight I see stars...... A starry sky like I remember when I was a little girl. It reminds me of summer nights years ago on our patio with a telescope trying to get a closer look with my Dad. I am so grateful that my Dad is still here and home after many months in the hospital. When you spend so much time at the hospital you meet other families and grow close to them. One by one, our friends lost their loved ones while in intensive care and one passed away after going home. Six months ago I jumped into my SUV and headed to ReTechSouth in Atlanta....so excited to meet up with friends and get together for a fun learning opportunity! Some I had met in person at REBarCamp RDU and some for the very first time. LOVED IT! So excited to get home and begin implementing all the many new things I learned there!
Oh, but life has a way of making changes in the best of plans.......
After all these weeks of being in the SICU, my dad got to move out of the area that we have all become so familiar with. He really is doing so much better! He has been having trouble getting off the ventilator, but other than that he is doing very well. He is on another floor (actually it's a hospital within a hospital) where they specialize in certain health issues.....and they have a higher percentage of success than the average in weaning patients off the ventilator. Since we have been spending all week at the hospital we have gotten to know a bunch of people in the waiting room. One of the new friends we have met is Laura. Her daddy is in the SICU also and she never leaves, spending every night since March 25th on an air mattress in the waiting room. She lives in Fort Payne, which is a good two hour drive from here. This weekend some of her family came down and today the kids have had a good (4 comments)
Some of you know that I have been spending a lot of time in the SICU waiting room at Trinity Medical Center........my dad was rushed to the hospital last Friday evening in very serious condition.
The last few days have been good.....he continues to improve with baby steps. He is responding to us more and more each day, trying to talk and moving around a lot, but he still has his respirator so he can't speak which is really frustrating him. They are working to wean him off the respirator so maybe in a (12 comments)
