new hampshire: New Hampshire's Missing Old Man of the Mountains - 05/06/08 01:02 AM
Each week, I usually do my "Seacoast Sunday Scenes" post, but this week, I wanted to pay tribute to New Hampshire's beloved state logo - our "Old Man of the Mountains".
Five years ago this past weekend, May 3rd, the rock formations that created the "Old Man of the Mountains" profile slid into history and fell at the basin of Cannon mountain.  Sometime between midnight and about 2-3am on the morning of May 3, 2003, he slid down the slopes, and when the fog lifted that morning, he was really gone.
It may seem trivial to some who are not from New Hampshire or who … (22 comments)

new hampshire: Portsmouth NH ~ Beautiful Fresh Snow Pictures - 01/01/08 05:30 AM

If you love snow, then come on up to New Hampshire!  As of yesterday, we broke a record for the most snow to fall in NH in December.  That old record of 43 inches of snow in December, set way back in 1876, was broken yesterday afternoon, December 31, 2007.  The total for this December reached 44.5 inches of the fluffy white stuff.
Of course, not all of the state actually broke that record, and some parts of NH went well over that record amount.  Concord NH, our state capitol, where the measurements for the state are recorded, is where the … (56 comments)

new hampshire: New Hampshire Among Best Prepared for Emergencies - 12/19/07 05:25 AM

In this day and age, it's somewhat comforting to know that I live in a state that's highly rated for emergency preparedness.  New Hampshire was rated as one of fourteen states that could "adequately handle pandemic crisis", in a report just released, "Ready or Not?  Protecting the Public's Health from Disease, Disasters, and Bioterrorism".
While nice to know my home state is rated highly, I truly hope we never have to find out just how well we'd perform with any major public health emergencies!

The Trust for America's Health rated each state in the country on ten different categories.  The 10 key indicators used to … (14 comments)

new hampshire: Portsmouth NH's Glorious Fall Colors! - 10/21/07 09:20 AM
To live here in New Hampshire is to live in one of the prettiest states in the country, especially in the fall.  Our fall foliage is enjoyed every year by millions of people from all over the world.
And the best thing ever -  I live RIGHT HERE and get to enjoy all of this everywhere I drive!
Here in Portsmouth NH, where I live, our foliage lags behind most of the rest of the state by a week or two.  We're the southeastern part of New Hampshire, and right here along the coast.
Ah, the good life - the town of Portsmouth … (44 comments)

new hampshire: Winter News for New Hampshire and New England - 10/06/07 04:43 AM
I've been reading and hearing that this winter will be warmer than originally predicted up here in New Hampshire and the northeast in general.  I'm loving that news!!
The Farmer's Almanac had predicted a slighter colder and snowier winter for us up in this corner of the country, but now several other sources, in particular the NOAA, are now saying that's not looking like it will come to be.
The NOAA is the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, US government forecasters.
~ this picture was taken 1-6-2007 during some incredibly warm winter weather!
Predictions from NOAA are that most of the country will be somewhat … (27 comments)

new hampshire: Portsmouth NH - August Events Around the Seacoast Area! - 08/04/07 07:34 AM
Summer here along America's tiniest coast in New Hampshire is really just the cat's meow!  In my opinion, there is no better place to be than here in the Portsmouth New Hampshire area for summer, or any other time of year.

We've got the smallest coast in the country, but we pack a lot of fun events into each month here - no matter the time of year.  Many of our summer fun actitivies are held in our gorgeous outdoor venues, like Prescott Park, Peirce Island, New Castle Common, Odiorne State Park, Hampton Beach, and other great spots.

Living here in Portsmouth New Hampshire offers an abundance of history and places to view that historical background Portsmouth and the Seacoast is so rich with.  Just about everywhere you look, you can find all kinds of things to do here that make history so interesting.  Growing up, I had no interest in anything to do with history at all, but I can tell you much of it fascinates me now.
And I am so lucky to live here in such a fabulous place called Portsmouth NH that's so alive with history!!

new hampshire: There's a REAL Person Associated with That Loan Number!!! - 06/27/07 09:14 AM
I know this has likely happened to others of you if you've been in this business any amount of time, but one of my very recent sales was like one of those SALES FROM HELL that defy description.

I'll spare you some of the details and only talk about the lender and some of what we went through with them.

To start, no, this was not a mortgage through one of my 'preferred' mortgage partners.  Nevertheless, you do expect professional service and for the parties involved to be treated like real people.  I don't think that's too much to ask at all.  Do you?  … (63 comments)

new hampshire: Portsmouth's Pet Pooch Park - Portsmouth New Hampshire - 06/15/07 07:42 AM
Portsmouth New Hampshire has loads of pets all over the place, and it's a great town for walking dogs (and kids!) - sidewalks in most of the town, a pet-friendly downtown, lots of nice little parks.  And we have a City of Portsmouth Dog Park, too.  That wasn't easy to get going, but it's been in existence for a few years now at this point.

Good news about the Portsmouth Pooch Park - it's in the process of getting a nice new overhaul.  A couple of weeks ago, a brand new fresh surface was put in.  It's now a stone surface, and it's been … (21 comments)

new hampshire: NOW May Just Be THE Perfect Time to Buy! - 05/05/07 11:56 PM
We all hear and read all kinds of things about the housing market, and most of us are probably pretty tired of the same old negative stuff.  What seems to get buried in all that "negative sells" stuff is that the market correction may actually be coming to an end in many markets across the country.  I know it sure seems like it is here in the areas I service - Portsmouth, Rye, New Castle, Hampton, Exeter, Stratham, Durham, Dover and the surrounding towns of the New Hampshire Seacoast, and the towns in southern Maine of Kittery, Eliot, South Berwick and York Maine.
