Fire & Ice Fest Friday, Jan. 27, 6:00 – 9:00 pmSaturday, Jan. 28, 10:00 am – 9:00 pmSunday, Jan. 29, 11:00 am – 4:00 pm Oakland County, Oakland County Parks, the City of Rochester and downtown Rochester come together to host the Fire & Ice Fest, a winter festival in downtown Rochester during the last weekend of January. rochester: Rochester's Newly Formed City Beautiful Commission has first meeting!

Over a year ago we had a committee called the Residential Property Task Force and from that group came great ideas from many of us to help our city ranging from volunteering on an individual basis to helping our neighbor to reactivating our own City Beautiful Commission to creating the Rental Property Ordinance/Guidelines. I remember from our meetings that I requested that we start helping our neighbors. If we see that someone needs their home painted that we would try to get donations to cover the costs and then volunteer and paint the house, now we can officially do that. Beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday October 3, thousands of people will be running or walking the Brooksie Way. This event was launched to enhance the quality of life for residents of Oakland County by promoting healthy, active lifestyles. To get involved log onto www.thebrooksieway.com for more information. Runners interested in participating can register online by October 1, 2010. Voluniteer opportunities are available on both race day and the weeks leading up to the race. WOW! Rochester is hopping with new businesses, the Farmer's Market is in full swing and is bringing in lots of visitors to our great city. We are in the process of planning for the big 2012 MAIN STREET RECONSTRUCTION (that will be a challenge to say the least) and in doing so we are converting our Alleys to one-way and beautifying the downtown alleys with pedestrian friendly street- scapes. We also installed Bicycle Racks downtown to help the Green Commuter. Other Green Commuter ideas are on books and we can only hope that we will soon become the CITY OF GREEN. Speaking (0 comments)

WOW. The numbers are growing and they are not pretty. We currently have 174 properties for sale in my town. Of the 174 properties, 43 are Short Sales, Foreclosures, Government Owned or Bank Owned properties. These numbers are growing everyday and we need to start focusing on sustaining our neighborhoods home values. We can not all become statistics or can we. We need the help of our City Government to help turn around our housing situation.
