Here are some great things to do and places to explore around Richmond, VA and the surrounding areas. Virginia is steeped in history and you can join many historical celebrations, watch fireworks, play with family and friends, listen to music… Most of these venues are family friendly, some allow outside food and drink (no alcohol or glass/metal containers), and some (Ashland notably) are pet friendly.
