internet: Sites Unite Against IE6 - 08/07/09 08:07 AM

IE6NoMore.com is attempting to organize a movement to finally kill Internet Explorer 6 (which was released in 2001).
IE6NoMore is asking sites to include code that detects the use of IE6 from visitors and encourages them to upgrade to Firefox 3.5, IE8, Safari 4, or Google Chrome. On Tues the movement composed of around a dozen sites, today that number has reached 72 participants.

internet: iPhone 3GS and Palm Pre News - 06/22/09 09:11 AM
Medialets released statistics regarding the Palm Pre showing that the Pre racked up an impressive 700,000 application downloads it's initial week of release. This may not appear many when compared to the Apple Store but when the Pre only had a mere 30 applications it becomes a much more impressive number.
Although the lines for the new iPhone was no where near what they have been in the past Apple managed to grab bragging rights again by moving a cool 1 million iPhone 3GS units during its release weekend.

As many of the iPhone users probably already know Apple should be releasing the big iPhone 3.0 software update today.

The browser credited for many of the innovations we now take for granted within Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Safari (tabs anyone?) has surprised everyone this morning by announcing Opera Unite.

internet: Microsoft Sets A Record in Patch - 06/09/09 03:08 PM
Microsoft broke it's own record which stood since  August of 2008 when it patched 26 vulnerabilities on Windows. Tuesdays patch took care of 31 vulnerabilities in Windows, Internet Exporer, Excel, Word, Windows Search and other programs. Many of the updates are considered critical and should be applied to systems as soon as possible. Microsoft has been released updates to it's software on a regular basis since 2006 making the update process more frequent and expected.

The Palm Pre will finally be unleashed to the world on Saturday and many reviews are coming in with a fairly wide range of opinions. For the most part the reviews seem to agree that the new WebOS (Operating System) is very strong and rivals or exceeds the iPhone in many ways. Microsoft throws it's hat into the ring again with yet another re-engineered "decision engine" named Bing. Bing jumped to a 6% market share just a few hours after it's launch, most of the traffic comes from Microsoft redirect all it's old search properties to Bing such as MSN Search and Live Search. Reviews have been mixed but majority agree that this is Microsofts best search product to date wither it takes any share away from the dominate Google is yet to be seen.

Google made an announcement of a new product that they will be releasing to the Open Source later this year. Google Wave looks to reinvent email by combining "conversation-type communication and collaboration-type communication."
In an attempt to summarize what Google Wave it all about combine a little Twitter, with a dash of Friendfeed, and add some Facebook into one service allowing the user to send direct messages, share photos, share documents all in real-time.

Quite a bit of news coming out of todays All Things Digital Conference especially associated with the soon released Palm Pre. Today we learned that Verizon will be getting the device within 6 months, this confirms the rumors of Sprint have a very short exclusive deal on the phone. Another piece of news that some will be happy to know is that the device will be recognized by iTunes allowing music syncing to be similar to an iPod.

The startling statistic was released today stating that over 20 hours of video content is being uploaded each minute to YouTube. The growth is quite astounding when compared to when Google purchased YouTube in 2007 the site was collect 6 hours of video per minute and this past January it had grown to 15 hours. In a relatively short amount of time it will hit 24 hours of content in a single minute, one full days worth of content every minute of every day.

Mozilla's new Jetpack project gives us a peak into how Mozilla may be directing Firefox for future use. Jepack attempts to extend the web functionality by streamlining it's already robust extension system. Palm has officially announced that the highly anticipated Palm Pre will be officially available at Sprint, Best Buy, Radio Shack, and select Wal-Mart locations on Saturday June 6. Google explained why over 14% of users were affected by an outage earlier today. According to Google's blog Google re-routed some of its traffic to Asia and in doing so caused a massive traffic jam. Google released a statement through their blog:

Imagine if you were trying to fly from New York to San Francisco, but your plane was routed through an airport in Asia.
