york county: Looking to be near a Maine lake? Lovely spot across from Loon Pond... - 07/16/14 12:35 PM
Maine is known for awe-inspiring sunrises and sunsets. This sunset was just a few weeks ago, captured by a client that can walk across the street and catch this kind of view on a nightly basis. I don't know about you, but I would NEVER tire of seeing such a magnificant display of nature.

Featured here is Loon Pond, one of the many lakes to be found in southern Maine, specifically in Acton, Maine. Loon Pond is comprised of about 95 acres, with a maximum depth of 10 feet. Boating, fishing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, and observing overwhelming views such as this … (0 comments)

york county: Comfortable, simple living in Parsonsfield Maine - 06/30/14 01:52 PM

George Carlin had a memorable monologue years ago, about "STUFF." His observations that the only reason we had big houses was because we needed more and more space for our "stuff." You know, he was likely right. Back in the 50's, the average home was around 900 square feet. In recent years, the median home size was around 2300 square feet. That is for the same size family in both eras. Just for giggles, here is what George had to say about stuff back in 1986. (Listen with  caution, we all remember George's facility with language!)

There is now … (1 comments)

york county: Maine Increasing Real Estate Transfer Taxes.....A Lot! - 06/09/07 05:12 PM
Currently, the state of Maine requires an equal division of the real estate transfer tax at closing to the tune of $4.40 per thousand, shared equally between buyers and sellers.  It's not a horrific number, pretty average from what I can tell by looking at some other states. Boiled down, if you are either buying or selling a home that is priced at $200,000.00, then at the closing table, you will pay to the state of Maine about $440.00.
Maine is a great place to live, and I can't complain about much.  But....I do have a problem with what our esteemed representatives … (23 comments)

york county: "Active Rain" takes on a new meaning in stormy York County, Maine - 04/28/07 04:15 PM
Last week was a historic week in Maine and New Hampshire, with a rainfall to that has had no comparison in recent history.  Driving around during the last week since the storm, I still see trees toppled over, huge pines cracked right down the middle, edges of the road are washed away, and hoses are still pouring water out of people's basement windows.  I attended a funeral of someone who, it is believed, died in his sleep from the fumes of the generator he had hooked up while without power. A young girl and her grandmother were swept away as water … (4 comments)
