advertising: The FIRST rule of ...Advertising? - 01/28/11 04:57 AM
First: Do no harm.

Sure, it sounds an awful lot like the words attributed to a Doctor's Hippocratic Oath.  This "oath" is widely believed to include the words written above.  But alas, it does not.

A better place for these words it would seem, is with those who accept our advertising dollars.  As paid allies in our daily struggle to improve our top-line sales, attract clients and to thoughtfully display our wares in a manner appealing to prospective customers, their responsibility is to help us NOT hurt us.
Business people spend their workday trying desperately to drive dollars from the … (4 comments)

advertising: 121,569 views...have you seen my ad on AR? - 09/09/08 01:01 PM
Well, I'm nearing the completion of my "test" advertisement on ACTIVE RAIN.  I was just wondering if you may have been one of the 121,569 views and might have seen my site?  The ad has run in four Southern California Counties.  (Orange, L.A., Riverside and San Diego).  It would be helpful for my cost evaluation if you could address these questions for me:
1. Have you seen my Ad?

2. If yes, what County are you in?

3. If yes, did the AR ad stand out or otherwise seem appealing to you?

3. Did you "click through" to my … (0 comments)

advertising: More non-traditional advertising attempts from the running man... - 08/20/08 03:11 PM
What methods of non-traditional advertising have I tried in order to promote my Notary Signing business?
Short answer: you name it, I've probably tried it...
Long answer: Business cards, direct mail (post-cards), local publications-telephone directory, community maps with coupons, cold-calling, Website creation, email marketing, magnetic vehicle signage, vinyl window lettering, spinner signage (kids on corners), bootleg signage at offramps and major cross-streets, purchased notary listings on notary websites, joined and active member of various notary-related and real estate websites, purchased paid listings for targeted areas across Southern California, and information/free listings on every free website listing service that I can find.    … (7 comments)

advertising: I'm just a drop of water,...in a river, long and winding... - 04/05/08 02:10 AM
Playing "office" when I was a kid was always my favorite pastime.  When my friends were excited about sports equipment, toys and games, I was always happiest with a fresh batch of office supplies.  I liked forms and checklists, pens and binder clips.  I was always a CEO or a President and I always had a deadline to meet.
One of my favorite photos of my dad showed him (vintage 1963) wearing a dark suit and tie, sitting at a desk, documents in hand and a cigar, perfectly positioned, between his index and middle fingers.  I suppose that photo planted itself deep … (2 comments)

advertising: Networking groups sometimes missing the mark...must be a better way! - 03/30/08 05:01 AM
Ever feel like you've been to one-too-many mixers, seminars and networking group recruiting breakfasts?  Most give you that cheesy nametag to wear so that insincere social misfits can walk up to you, call you by name, and spend the next 20 minutes blathering on about their local store which, by the way, has "...cornered the cheese-whiz market".  Sometimes, these businesses get around sending an owner and instead, send their newest member of the "management team".  At closer inspection, this young "fireball" who probably shaved for the first time this morning, looks alot like a kid who used to play with your kids in the … (5 comments)

advertising: Campaign buttons...I like the concept! - 03/29/08 05:53 PM
Remember when a campaign button was an effective tool?  If you do, you are surely much older than I am.  Still, I like the simplicity of them.  Today, so much of our advertising is high-tech, internet related or somehow even more impersonal.  Buttons seem to be more tangible and even more valuable to the wearer.  I've been toying with the idea of ordering some form of "premium" for my clients.  A token that I can give to them as both a thank-you for their business and a reminder of my services.  Cheapo pens are not likely.  I figure that if I … (0 comments)

advertising: An advertising suggestion that makes alot of sense (simplify....) - 03/25/08 11:32 AM
Recently, I asked for friends to review my website...(because yesterday I didn't know what a webmaster was...today I ARE ONE!!)  A comment that came from my brother was about "Branding".  He stated that he saw me shorten my business name to initials only in places throughout the site and that he thought this was a wasted opportunity to remind my customers of my company name.  I was impressed with this as constructive advice that seemed so obvious I was embarrassed I hadn't caught it myself.  What is it about being too close to the project?  I confess that my website is not … (5 comments)

advertising: What kind of non-traditional advertising do you do? - 03/15/08 05:26 PM
I recently began a new signage campaign.  I've delivered Krispy Kremes to Escrow Officers, sent postcards to mortgage brokers and business carded every client, attorney, real estate agent and bank employee I've met in the last five years.  I have done doorhangers, launched a website and participated in every legal type of email  known to man.  I have participated in networking groups, Notary website listings, paid listings and added my name to every free database I know about.  Lately, I have participated enthusiastically here at Active Rain as well as some Notary specific blogs where I am a member.  I believe I've done … (11 comments)

advertising: Directional/Human Signage...is it an effective tool? - 03/08/08 08:54 AM
I've seen this tactic used for new construction and the sale of Model Homes... Since the practice began to be so popular, I began to wonder if it would work for me...?
I finally decided to go out on a limb last week and ordered the signs... Can any of you provide feedback on just how successful you have or have not been?
I imagine I can get my kid and her teenage friends to "man" the signage in the summer, I'm exploring other avenues for morning and evening commuters in the escrow, mortgage and legal fields.  Any suggestions?
