realtor: Me and Scooby Do!!!! - 05/11/10 09:55 AM
How do you like my new profile picture?  My husband, Tom, is a drummer in a rock and roll band and his bass player drives this colorful van complete with Scooby Do sitting in the front seat.  What a hoot to watch the people especially the kiddos as he drives up to an event.
This is just another avenue for me to enjoy life and relieve some stress.  And just because we are Professional REALTORS doesn't mean we don't have fun and let our hair down some time.  I think it's important for the public to see us as human beings … (1 comments)

realtor: April Fools For Realtors! or Just Another Day in Paradise! - 04/01/09 11:25 AM
APRIL FOOLS!!!!  By Dee Miller

Have you ever had a day when you wish someone would just say, "April Fools!"

It's Monday, we both had a LONG weekend and all we want to do is sleep in.  Both cell phones start ringing!  We let them go to voice mail and get up!

Half way to the office, my grandson's school calls.  Isaiah is sick and they can't reach his Mom.  I turn around and pick him up at school. By now he is REALLY sick!!! I can't leave him so Tom will have to go to our closing … (0 comments)

realtor: My Outlook on the Current Iowa City Housing Market - 09/11/07 04:08 AM

If you are thinking about buying or selling a property in the Iowa City area or anyplace, talk to a REALTOR!  They know more about the area market than anyone else!  It's their business!  More than your neighbor, your co-worker or a well meaning friend or relative.
In general in the Iowa City area, here's how I see it:
If you are a buyer, it's GREAT!!!  Did you hear what I said?  It's a GREAT market!!! The interest rates are very good.  Yes, they have gone up a little, however they are still very good.  And the inventory is strong!  So what are … (0 comments)

realtor: Iowa City, Iowa, One of the Gayest Cities In The Country! - 07/25/07 03:43 AM
An article in the July 25th issue of the Iowa City Press-Citizen states that Iowa City, Iowa, because of it's diversity, is a great place for gay people.  It has been compared to San Francisco.
I am a member of the Iowa City Area Association of Realtors Fair Housing Ambassadors. We were formed because we saw a need to educate the community on diversity issues. Having resources available to inform newcomers to our community is also an important part of our mission.
I have been a REALTOR for 14 years. I have lived in this community my whole life. There is something of interest … (1 comments)

realtor: REAL ESTATE CAN BE HAZARDOUS TO YOUR HEALTH!!! - 07/19/07 05:18 AM

I have seen many changes in Real Estate in 14 years. More forms for buyer protection; agency rules; disclosures; more and more title problems, appraisal problems and inspection problems. Endless loan products!

Locally, in the Iowa City area, our market has slowed down in the past 2 years.  Multiple offers are rare.  Buyers are hearing about the down market and how they can get great deals especially if they wait. Days on market has gone from an average of about 45 to 112 days!  Homes are selling for an average of 95-96% of the list price as opposed to 99-100%. And I've even seen … (0 comments)

realtor: Celebrating Fair Housing In Iowa City - 04/19/07 05:09 AM
As all REALTORS are aware, April is Fair Housing month. That's not to say that we shouldn't follow the fair housing guidelines all year long! It's just that April is the anniversary month of the Federal Fair Housing act. It's a good time to remind everyone of the guidelines and how they apply to us as REALTORS. REALTORS are often the first contacts area newcomers have. Diversity is a good thing! Wouldn't it be a boring world if we were all the same! Owning a home is the American dream and everyone, regardless of their differences should be afforded that privilege!
Despite … (1 comments)

realtor: Is This Impossible in Madison? - 04/12/07 10:38 AM
I have buyer clients who are moving to Madison. They have already been contacted by a REALTOR through their relocation company.
First off, she told them they would never be able to find what they were looking for in the price range they gave her but if they went up just $40,000 she was sure they would. Maybe she's exactly right, maybe not!
They can't go up that high, they are going to owe at least $9000 at closing on their home here. Just bought less than a year ago and for 100% financing. She is getting a really great promotion so … (0 comments)

realtor: Active Rain Realtors- All so different but much the same! - 04/09/07 10:50 AM
As I read many of  your blogs, I find myself thinking, "I've felt that way!" or "That's happened to me!". We may all live in different parts of the country, be affiliated with many different companies but what it really boils down to, is we all have a passion for real estate and doing what is best for our clients and fellow agents. If we didn't have a passion for our industry, we wouldn't be taking the time to read the blogs and comment on them. We wouldn't care about how we handled a transaction. We wouldn't care about doing a … (6 comments)

realtor: Why Don't Consumers Trust Realtors? - 03/02/07 06:06 AM
We still seem to have a problem with consumers trusting Realtors. Have they had a bad experience? Did they just think it was bad and really it was a misunderstanding that the "bad" Realtor didn't even know about? Did they have parents who pounded it into their heads to not trust strangers? What is the deal? The last 3 open houses I have attended, I maybe was able to get 4 first names and 1 first and last name out of 8 people that came through. I am a friendly person with a big smile. I don't think I'm intimidating! I … (0 comments)
