Congratulations to the Belgrade Community Library for being named the best small library in America! The Belgrade Library competed against other libraries serving areas with less than 25,000 people and beat every single one. After being named the Montana Library of the year in 2011, the Belgrade Community Library decided to take on the nation as well—and won. In its application, the library described itself as an institution that has had to adapt to a fast shifting Belgrade. The Belgrade City / County Planning Board reapproved a 357 lot project this week—a project that had already been given the green light in 2006. The Ryan Glenn Estates project was once again approved, after the original project fell through during the recession. Glenn’s project went under after an Arkansas Bank that had funded the project had also folded. This subdivision is yet another recently approved development to increase home inventory and supply for the valley. The Belgrade City Council voted on and approved a resolution to raise the benchmark for city streets, improving the function of future roads in a growing town. From now on, any newly constructed or reconstructed roads will need more designations for pedestrians and bikers, while also adding more curbs, gutters and sidewalks. Any minor construction, such as chip sealing, will not need to meet the new requirements.
