Spring is in the air and Easter is just around the corner as Auburn and Opelika prepare for their citywide Easter events.
Auburn is celebrating its 34 th annual Easter egg hunt Saturday at 10 a.m. in Kiesel Park.
  There will be more than 35,000 eggs spread out across a four-acre area.

Plans to expand certain amenities within Chewacla State Park are on the horizon as the park adjusts to recent entrance and service fee changes and prepares to switch over to a more modern campground and cabin reservation system.
Essentially, there's a lot going on at Chewacla.
The state park, which offers features like hiking trails, a geocaching course and new mountain bike trails, increased its entrance fees by $1 at the beginning of March. Sometimes all the odds seem stacked against us and we don't know if we can take another step forward.  Thought this would be a good message for us during those tough times.  Never give up even when the going gets rough and you feel like you can't keep up the momentum needed.  When you cross the finish line you'll be happy you kept your goal in front of you and did not give up.

Auburn Mayor Bill Ham offers high praise for Chewacla State Park’s newest attraction.
On Thursday, several dozen people – including many mountain biking enthusiasts — met at the upper pavilion to celebrate the opening of a new six-mile trail. It was made possible by a Recreation Trails Program grant through the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs.

The Louise Kreher Forest Ecology Preserve and Nature Center will give participants the chance to leave a mark on the preserve when they hold a mosaic tile workshop on March 17 and 18.
Those attending the workshop, which will be taught by local artist Cindy Mask and the Nature Center staff, will have the opportunity to make trivets for themselves and also help construct three mosaic tile benches to be set up throughout the preserve.
