blogging: Laurie Manny Challenge ~3 Posts I Think You Should Read. - 08/16/07 02:05 PM

Today, I spent some time tooling around the blogosphere to explore new worlds with my cursor on assignment for my entry into the Laurie Manny challenge. It was very interesting to visit a number of sites in tandem with reading the cover story on social networking & Facebook in the latest Newsweek magazine. (August 2007)
You see we've been having an on-going, aggressive discussion in our home ( I live with two teenage veterans of Facebook) about if it is appropriate for people of a "certain age" to be on Facebook. They are adamant that anyone over 30 should be banned from Facebook.

blogging: Blog Prospecting....Optimizing the Reach of your Local Real Estate Blog! - 08/01/07 01:11 PM

"I saw your article!"  That was the first words out of Kristin's mouth as she lowered me into the chair to put shampoo in my hair.  It had been about two weeks since I posted a blog about Sananda Hair Salon in Grand Rapids, Michigan and the excellent service provided by my hairdresser and the staff of the salon.
I had tried to explain to Kristin and her boss what I would be doing to promote their business in appreciation for the care and attention they had applied to my tresses through the years.  But, I'm not sure they truly understood.  … (49 comments)

blogging: Do You Know Who's Cheering on The Sidelines for Your Blog Post? (Part 2) What if They're a Fake? - 07/21/07 09:28 AM
*Click here to read Part 1 of the Series: "Do You Know Who is Cheering on the Sidelines of Your Blog Post?
What if the Cheering Section on the Sidelines of your Blog was Really a Fake?  What if the comments posted on your blog were purchased comments written by a Ghost Writer?  What if comments posted in response to your blog article were simply a clever manipulation to gain more exposure and readership for someone else's blog?
Recently, I was reading an interesting post on Pro Blogger by Darren Rowes entitled Buy Comments - A Sick New Comment Spam Service Launches.  Curious, I visited the … (79 comments)

blogging: Is Your Static Website Stuck in a Time Warp? - 07/11/07 04:04 AM
Recently, I engaged in a very interesting discussion with two young entrepreneurs who have started a Web Marketing company.  That fact in and of itself is not really unusual.  But what is unique is that this new company is being sponsored by an automotive parts assembly business as a means to diversify the parent company's customer base.  Definitely an innovative approach for an industry hit hard by the economic woes in the State of Michigan.
The free-range discussion moved quickly from the preliminaries of how, what and where and became much more interesting as we began to explore the why.  They were interested in exploring why Realtor websites … (18 comments)

blogging: Michigan Tops 1000! - 07/10/07 12:11 PM
A few weeks ago, Teresa Boardman posted a fascinating analytical blog that she entitled "Who is On Active Rain. If you missed it when it was posted on 4/26/07, I encourage you to hope on over there right now to read it.  It'll give you a much better understanding of what's being discussed in this post.  Go on...what are you waiting for?  :)
Well, now that you're back, (I'm assuming you at least took a peak), you will note that the the number of Active Rain Bloggers in the State of Michigan just missed the top 10. While we had considerably less Blogging … (5 comments)

blogging: Would You Allow Your Blog To Send You to Jail? - 06/08/07 08:57 AM
Two articles in Newsweek Magazine literally grabbed my attention.  Blogging is rapidly transforming our world!  In some other parts of the world, Bloggers are so intimidating to the "powers that be" that they are being sent to jail!  Would you be willing to go to Jail for the Content You Write in Your Blog?
I initially read the print version of Dan Ephron's Newsweek magazine article (June 11, 2007) entitled "Unwanted Attention."  The issue that was highlighted was the efforts of Arab dissidents using blogging as a means of political protest.  One Syrian Blogger, Ammar Abdulhamid, now in exile is confined to blogging about the events in his … (14 comments)

blogging: What to Do When Google Shows Up for The Interview Before You do! - 05/28/07 04:12 PM

"We Googled You."  This was the response to my question to out of state clients who unnerved me by how much they seemed to know about me prior to our first meeting with them six years ago. We were riding together to see homes in a mini-van.  At the  time, I didn't even know what Google was.  But my prospective clients had already scoped me out.
"We Googled You" is also the title of a recent case study, by Diane Coutu, published in the Harvard Business Review about  a "fictional character"  Mimi Brewsterwho is being interviewed for a job with a major corporation in China.  As an exceptionally qualified … (78 comments)

blogging: Dear Blog Creator...Do You Know Who I am? - 05/07/07 04:42 PM

 Dear Blog Creator

Do you know who I am?  I dance alongside; inside & outside your blog, dipping into your thoughts, skirting or delving into issues, hopefully minding my manners & welcoming your visitors.
It's my job to create the secondary "first impression".  The one that people view to get a more in depth view of who is writing the text.  I show up in a variety of venues & search engines love to feed on my content.  I'm your second chance to convince someone that your thoughts merit attention...I am your parallel blog.

blogging: Blog Branding...Do You Market Your Blog the Way You Do Your Website? - 03/18/07 05:39 PM
A question which I've found increasingly intriguing is this:  Would you Market Your Website, the Way You Market Your Blog?  It seems to me that on-line marketing is ultimately about content.
When I view agent websites across the country, it is very apparent that most agents put a significant amount of effort into creating content rich, visually appealing websites.  It is an established fact that  having visitors on your site for longer periods of time ultimately translates into a more effective & more profitable website.  It follows that more content = more time= more leads = more business.
This is what puzzles … (4 comments)

blogging: How to Survive A Blog Hijacking! - 02/21/07 10:01 AM
Have you ever received a backhanded compliment and wondered how to respond?  You're not sure whether to say thank you or bug off.  Well, in the Blogosphere, Hijacking a Blog Post is rapidly becoming an issue that every Blogger must be aware of.  When search engine results for Grand Rapids, Michigan Real Estate Agents  began to consistently rank my Blog on the first page, some of my Blog Posts were hijacked!  In it's most benign form, hijacking can be construed to be the on-line version of a back handed compliment.  In it's malignant form, it is just plain THEFT.  As a … (48 comments)

blogging: Journey Through the Web...From Websites to Blogging. - 02/10/07 10:14 AM
Approximately 12 years ago, I began my real estate career.  In short order, I became the owner of a computer, bought a separate Compaq notebook, purchased a cell phone which took up 25% of my purse space, carried a beeper which was perpetually on, and uploaded my first website.
The website project was a computer/business project created by my cousin who was studying business and IT in university.  He needed a project for a grade and I wanted to explore the world of computing as inexpensively as possible. This short lived partnership in which my FTP uploads didn't work properly and the website was … (1 comments)
