real estate: Do You Know Who's Cheering on The Sidelines for Your Blog Post? (Part 1) - 07/20/07 12:09 PM

Have you ever wondered who the true audience for a real estate blog is?  Do you know what percentage of your audience is other professionals vs. potential clients?  Have you been contacted by potential clients because they read your blog?  What is the proper focus for a real estate blog...personal, professional or some combination of the two?
I suspect that there are many different answers to these questions.  Over the past several months, I have  had the opportunity to talk with and interview many individuals who have read my blog posts.  These conversations have yielded many helpful insights.
This short series will talk about some of the things that I've … (15 comments)

real estate: Does Your Real Estate Ad Copy Droop Like Droopy or Sizzle With Sass! - 06/14/07 12:15 PM
There are a lot of things that are dramatically changing the way real estate is done.  Every area of the industry is being radically transformed by what some economist refer to as "creative disruption." We've all been inundated with the latest happening at  Zillow, Trulia, Craigslist & recently on 60 Minutes...Redfin.  But they, and their overall strategies to establish new norms for pricing in the real estate industry are not the subject of this post!
Recently, Redfin was forced to cease & desist in publishing it's reviews on listed properties by the local real estate board.  (You can read their response to this action … (36 comments)

real estate: The Growing Cycle...This Business of Simply Being Human! - 05/30/07 04:06 PM

Grand Rapids, Mi  1996.
You could sense the tension in the classroom.  We had been informed that we were going to be discussing It after the break.  An uncomfortable atmosphere hovered over the participants in the smallish classroom in which a group of real estate agents had gathered to continue their education.
The mandatory 3 hours of Civil Rights Instruction was the elephant in the room.  Now, why did I feel that in an oddly peculiar way that this was about me? Being the only black participant in the class, I sensed that everyone was poised to be careful, ...very, very careful in how they responded to … (26 comments)

real estate: Why Real Estate is Like An Expensive Box Of Chocolates! - 05/21/07 02:24 PM
Serious chocolate lovers have a way of finding each other.  Until I met Kathy, I thought I was a serious chocolate lover, but as she began to describe a velvet, delectable, svelte quality of a brand of chocolates that I had no familiarity with, I knew that her love affair was in an entirely different league.  But I was fascinated.
Fresh out of college, my idea of a splurge was a Snickers bar a day, a 40 cent habit which was the limit of what I could afford.  My desire was fueled by the tantalizing enticement of sampling the best!
Kathy was describing chocolate bars … (24 comments)

real estate: The Proper Care & Creatin' Of Memorable Experiences...Boy, Do I Miss My Travel Agent! - 05/14/07 04:42 PM
You know what, I really, really, really miss my former travel agent!   My favorite travel agency had to close down many years ago. My last visit to the shopping center where the travel office was located is now the setting for  a specialty food & party store. Barely anyone remembers that a travel agency occupied that space for many years.
But, I will never forget my first experience of Christmas away from home; a young 18 year old college student, separated by thousands of miles.  That winter in the early 80's was especially harsh...cold wet snow pelted me whenever I ventured outside.  I was desperately homesick. I … (4 comments)

real estate: Cultivating the Art of Rainmaking to Transform your Business Forecast! - 04/22/07 09:02 AM

This past week was an adventure...the cost-a-fortune-college-trip adventure!  We just got back from a long trip up the east coastline to visit a few universities with our son.  Just prior to the trip, a scary Northeaster storm rammed the areas where we were headed.  Then on the way into New Haven, CT, news of the Virginia Tech massacre was filtering in on the airways.  With so much going on, including flooding reports in many areas, we were actually grateful that our final destination was simply blustery cold rain & moderate winds.
We passed several areas which still remained covered by standing … (18 comments)

real estate: Peering Through the Bubble & Climbing the Palaver Tree! - 01/07/07 02:56 PM
Peering Through the Bubble & Climbing the Palaver Tree!

"We don't yet see things clearly. We're squinting in a fog, peering through a mist. But it won't be long before the weather clears and the sun shines bright! We'll see it all then, see it all as clearly as God sees us, knowing him directly just as he knows us! "
1 Corinthians 13:12  Quote from Message Bible
On any given sunny day, all along the African coastline, discussions range from the mundane to the serious, but without fail, the colorful, often loud and lyrical prose of spirited discussion usually includes at least a little of … (7 comments)
