The original Burke Gilman trail connected Gas Works Park and Tracy Owen Station in Kenmore 12.1 miles away. The trail was formerly owned by Burlington Northerner Railroad and was abandon in 1971 a citizen group launched a campaign to acquire the abandon railroad tracks and turn it into a non-motorized public biking and walking trail.
