real estate blogging: A Couple of Rules Every Blogger Can Use - 02/01/10 07:21 AM
In the January/February 2010 issue of The Residential Specialist, the publication of the Council of Residential Specialists (CRS), I was quoted in an article entitled "Virtual Road Rules."  The article discusses copyright, intellectual property laws and general blogging etiquette.
Also quoted extensively in this article is fellow Active Rain member, Jeff Dowler.
The box below from the article on page 15 of the magazine article authored by Mary Ellen Collins contains a couple of rules that every blogger can use:

Flipping through September's REALTOR Magazine, my attention was drawn to a small box in the lower left hand corner of page 4 containing a Reader Poll.  This month's question:
"Have you cut back on marketing this year?"

Is now really the time to be cutting back? 
Maybe spending gobs of money on full page glossy ads in local print magazines isn't a great idea any more, but it probably wasn't a great idea or good use of marketing dollars to begin with, buddy.

As real estate brokers, we are often the first introduction that many relocating homebuyers have to our area of the country. When researching where to live, people rely on REALTORS for information about various key criteria such as neighborhoods, schools, prices, trends, things to do in the region, tax considerations, etc.
As real estate brokers, we are Ambassadors for our own regions. Show me one real estate agent who hates the area they work and live, and I'll show you one agent who should leave the business.

This morning I taught a Real Estate Blogging 101 class to about 25 other REALTORS at my brokerage RE/MAX Allegiance.  At the beginning of the class, I asked who currently had a blog and only 3 or 4 people raised their hands.
