As Austin neighborhood groups rally to save our city pools, the folks at "Friends of Shipe Park" are having a Party, and a Rally to Save the Pool, at the same time! This Saturday, June 25th from 4-6 pm. Sponsored by the Hyde Park Neighborhood Association, it's the annual summer opening party featuring live music, burgers (both meat and vegetarian), pot luck dishes, snow cones, and much more. The kids will have plenty of room to play. The park has a play scape, swings, a basket ball court, tennis courts and of course a swimming pool. Don't forget the little ones, (1 comments)
recreation: Jailbreak Austin is now 10 days away!

Jailbreak Austin Texas in 10 days! Yes I'm still questing..... I started working on getting myself ready last Saturday. I know, I know, two weeks is not enough time to get in shape for a 3.5 mile, uphill run with 16 obstacles. But I'm going to do it anyway! I'll be climbing up towers, sliding down mud slides, trudging through water crossings, climbing up hay mountains, avoiding water cannons, crawling underneath barbed wire, all the while being chased by the local Sheriff. Doesn't that sound like fun? It's being run at a Reveille Peak Ranch and there will be beer, bbq (1 comments)

I began training in earnest Sunday January 30th. I kicked off my new quest by running 3 miles through Hyde Park. It was 77 degrees out and my lungs felt like they were going (0 comments)

- 08/23/10 10:50 AM
This is a repost from my personal blog: http://mypersonalquestforfitness.blogspot.com/ I survived the Xterra 5K! Not only did I survive but I came in third place in my age group (45-50) and I out ran all of the (40-45) year old runners as well. My time was 36:23. It was great fun, but a very challenging course. It started off along the flat part of the park, skirting the lake. But very quickly we made a hard right and headed to the hills. Of course, the hardest part was the initial climb. It was a very treacherous ascent which included a rope (3 comments)
