md: Worldwide real estate auctions: Williams & Williams - 11/18/08 06:54 AM
I just noticed a lot of MD auctions from Williams & Williams on AuctionZip, are they new? They run a lot of online auctions too which is an awesome idea. Anyways, there is another auctioneer out there to look at and as usual, here is a handy dandy widget that pulls in their listings. According to AR guidelines, "points will only be awarded for your original content submissions". I created this myself, so hopefully I don't lose points for "unoriginal content". I think a widget that constantly updates itself with their latest auctions is pretty original. I created this to post … (0 comments)

md: SC Johnson Clean Team contest hacked? - 06/17/08 01:46 AM
The SC Johnson Clean Team will visit one of the three neighborhoods (Highlandtown, Penn Ave, or Pigtown) and give it a “Clean-Up Makeover” just in time for the summer. I posted about this yesterday and got at least 30 people from the office to vote. They all said Pigtown had at least 50% of the vote. This morning, I check and we are down to 14% of the vote, even behind Penn Avenue! There is no way 6,000 people voted for Highlandtown last night. Vote for Pigtown and right this wrong! Click here for more info and to cast your vote. … (1 comments)

md: Results 1 Realty now online with Baltimoresun.com! - 02/11/08 06:49 AM
This one has been a long time coming! I'm sure most of you have heard of Results 1 Realty. Their office is right by my house in Pigtown and I've been talking to them for the better part of a year about the beauty of online advertising. I finally got the OK for a little test run and I'm sure the results are going to be amazing. Most of their listings are in Baltimore and under the $300k mark, which is a very popular combination with our readers. They are also very good about making sure every listing has lots of … (0 comments)

md: Does more traffic lead to more sales? - 02/11/08 06:32 AM
Everyone knows that the real estate market slows down in general during the Holidays every year (this year in particular). We can see that reflected in our traffic numbers. Fewer people read our real estate articles. Our number of real estate searches tends to drop a little bit as well. And our unique users are slightly lower too. Every January we rebound along with the market, but this year our numbers did more than rebound. Baltimoresun.com handled more home searches in January than in any month of '07 except July. We had a record number of unique users. And we sent … (0 comments)

md: Housing Swaps - Are any of your clients asking about this? - 02/04/08 03:18 AM
I read an article today and it was the first I had heard of these new sites dedicated to housing swaps. Usually I am all for creative ideas that help people sell their homes faster but I'm not too sure about this one. It just seems like such a long shot that it's probably not even worth trying. Maybe put it on CL, but to pay for a listing on these sites seems like a waste. I could be wrong (often am), what's your take on this 'trend'? Click here for the article or just read below: [Your browser does not … (3 comments)

md: Charles Village guide - news, photos, crime, home prices, & more - 01/31/08 12:48 AM
Charles Village is one of my favorite neighborhoods in Baltimore. I actually have a happy hour coming up next week at the Brewer's Art. Too bad I'm not into independent films though. Maybe one of these days I'll make the move, but for now at least I get to drive through it every day on my way to work. Here is the Charles Village page on Baltimoresun.com. It is constantly updated with new articles, so keep checking back if this is a neighborhood you're interested in. I'd be interested to hear what you think about the area or our coverage of … (0 comments)

md: Citizens on Patrol - Taking back a community, step by step - 01/30/08 07:52 AM
By Sumathi Reddy | Sun reporter October 27, 2007 Citizens on Patrol hopes to start a movement in East Baltimore As dusk settles, the glittering lights of downtown emerge, just a few miles away -- but a world removed -- from one of the roughest areas in one of the deadliest cities in the country. A group gathers on the corner of North Patterson Park Avenue and East Hoffman Street in East Baltimore, within blocks of the scenes of at least eight homicides this year. Police officers and representatives from the mayor's office, a mother from South Baltimore and a couple … (2 comments)

md: Insider's Guide to Canton - Beyond the Square - 01/30/08 07:07 AM
By Nick Gestido | Special to baltimoresun.com From high atop Brewers Hill, the neon face of Mr. Boh looks down across the tops of rowhomes and warehouses to the waterfront along Boston Street. The famous Baltimore icon has a fantastic view of Canton, a happening hotspot in southeast Baltimore. Once a booming hub of industry, Canton is now a trendy area for young urban professionals. Instead of foundries, warehouses and wharfs, you will now find a variety of restaurants, bars and nightclubs along the streets of Canton. The neighborhood is a melting pot -- a mixing of its industrial, blue-collar roots … (0 comments)

md: Insider's Guide to Mid-Govans - 01/30/08 01:13 AM
Article on Baltimoresun.com
Insiders' guide to Mid-Govans By Nancy Jones-Bonbrest | Special to the sun January 27, 2008 Founded as a residential offshoot to the busy York Road business route, Mid-Govans offered its earliest residents the ease of being within walking distance of area merchants, shops and churches. Today's residents still find those features inviting. "I brag about the neighborhood all the time. The quietness, the cleanliness of it," said Irvin Johns, president of the Mid-Govans Community Association. "It's convenient to pretty much everything." Located along the east side of York Road just south of the historic Senator Theatre, the … (2 comments)

md: Auction Brokers Widget - 01/28/08 01:30 AM
I'm just testing to see if this works. I just noticed that Auction Brokers added an RSS feed to their site. I check all of the local auction sites weekly and it's annoying bouncing from Alex Cooper to AJ Billig to Auction Brokers and on and on. I can't wait for them all to have RSS feeds so I can pump all their upcoming auctions right to my homepage along with the blogs I follow, headlines from the Sun, and my football/basketball scores. I think I'm starting to like tech stuff a little too much. … (0 comments)

md: Help me help the MD Special Olympics by jumping in freezing cold water! - 01/22/08 12:59 PM
I've decided to participate in this year's Polar Bear Plunge!! I am writing to ask for your help, Active Rainers. On January 26, 2008, I have committed to grin and “bear” it for the athletes of Special Olympics Maryland by taking a chilly dip into the Chesapeake Bay alongside about 7,500 other warm-hearted people. I know – you’re probably getting cold just thinking about it! But the cold that I will feel is temporary…the positive impact this will have on the lives of thousands of citizens with intellectual disabilities will last a lifetime. I have set a personal fundraising goal, and … (6 comments)
