It's that time again- watering restrictions FAQ's
It's that time again- watering restrictions FAQ's Hard to believe it, but it's water restrictions time for we here in Central Florida that fall under the jurisdiction of the St. John's River Water Management District.  Coinciding with the end of Daylight Savings Time, we transition from being able to water our lawns twice each week to being able to water them only once each week. "What are water restrictions?"  Great question!  You can learn more about them- and how to keep yourself from getting a violation notice- by checking out the St. … (16 comments)

Election 2012 Results, Analysis and Commentary

Well, we've come to the end of another long election cycle and America has spoken the folks across our great land that managed to somehow squeeze a bit of free time out of their busy schedules and vote for (or against) those seeking to chart America's path over the next few years have spoken.

As the son, grandson and nephew of those who have served in our Army and Air Force during wartime and one who proudly served our nation as a Navy cryptologist myself, I … (6 comments)

dennis burgess: It's Election Day, America... - 11/05/12 03:19 PM
It's Election Day, America... It's Election Day, America... It's Election Day, Orlando! It's Election Day, Florida! It's Election Day, Ohio! Pennsylvania! Alabama! It's time for all good men and women to literally stand up and be counted.  As the cliché goes, "If you don't vote, you can't complain"- and truer words may have never been spoken.  And if you don't vote in today's election, you can't complain...and you've got none other than yourself to blame for the suffering your children and grandchildren will endure as a result of your not doing so. Some might not like this post that much.  Some … (5 comments)

Mitt Romney shakes hands along the "rope line" (or metal barricade in this case) in Sanford, Florida 11/5/12.  An enthusiastic crowd heard him speak of how he'll get to work on repairing America 11/7/12.

For those who have never experienced a presidential "rope line", these 2 short videos will give you a glimpse into the excitement and chaos that ensues...

Mitt Romney- Sanford, FL 11/5/12

Mitt Romney made one last trip to Central Florida this morning- stopping to address an energetic crowd at the Orlando Sanford International Airport.  Folks began arriving at 4:00 am for this event- with yours truly playing slacker and not getting there until 5!  The event was a "who's who" of Florida Republican politics both past and present- with Mel Martinez, Jeb Bush, Connie Mack, Rick Scott, John Mica, Jennifer Carroll and others there to welcome Governor Romney and send him off on his last day of campaigning for The White House.
The following videos are … (2 comments)

One more time in Florida...Go, Mitt, go!

One more time in Florida...Go, Mitt, go!
Don't have to guess where I am this morning!  We've got one last chance to see Mitt Romney before Election Day- and one last chance to rally the troops and get out the vote for him.  Our incumbent president hasn't shown that he's capable of doing much well- but even his staunchest critics will acknowledge he's one heck of a campaigner and will fight until the final poll closes.  We have to fight harder.
If our current president had dedicated 1/2 the effort he spent on … (8 comments)

dennis burgess: Time to fall back...already? - 11/03/12 12:14 AM
Time to fall back...already?Time to fall back...already? No offense intended, of course- but can anyone tell me where our summer went?  Or where at least where 2012 went? It seems like the same ol' thing every year: with each passing month, we ask each other "Can you believe it's March....April.....October already?"- like the passage of time is this new concept the clock and calendar folks have sprung on us and all. Guess it's a good conversation starter when there's nothing else to discuss, though- goes hand-in-hand with "Nice weather we're having, huh?" and the obligatory "How are you doing?" that we … (2 comments)

dennis burgess: Do you "affirmatively further" Fair Housing? - 11/02/12 02:03 PM
Do you "affirmatively further" Fair Housing? Do you "affirmatively further" Fair Housing? If you're the least bit like me, your first reaction might be "What the heck does affirmatively further mean?". Well, it means a lot- and I don't quite know whether that's a lot of good. My seemingly never-ending search for SEO gold led me to a site called Quora early this week- and one of the questions currently being posed to folks by Nikole Hannah-Jones of ProPublica is a similar one: "What should communities be doing to "affirmatively further" fair housing?" This question prompted me to read Hannah-Jones' story … (4 comments)

Operation Christmas Child 2012 underway!
I’m so glad that my church- Aloma (Baptist) Church, Winter Park, FL- has once again partnered with Rev. Franklin Graham’s Samaritan’s Purse organization for another year.
Last year, our church had a lofty goal:  filling, collecting and sending 1,000 shoeboxes.  When all was said and done, our church had collected over 1,300 shoeboxes- and they were on their way to other parts of the world where they were surely going to make a difference in some children’s lives.  Some children (such as the one from Haiti in the photo above) … (5 comments)

Near-miss on the roads of Orlando
Near-miss on the roads of Orlando Many have viewed my posts in my Pedestrian Tales From the Middle of the Road series- which at last count had tallied 38 needless pedestrian deaths. I've surely never expected to hit anyone- though there have surely been times when I've swerved to avoid a wayward pedestrian (or even a family of them). This photo from my trip to work yesterday morning gives a bit of a look into how things go around here. It's my hope that this post serves 2 purposes: an informational/awareness one that all … (0 comments)

I have humbly announced my candidacy for a position on our Orlando Regional Realtor Association (ORRA)'s Board of Directors for the coming year, 2013.  If eligible, I respectfully request your vote for me- so that I might have the privilege of serving out Association.

My Lord and Savior Jesus Christ has blessed me with many things I'll never claim to deserve- but one of His blessings is that I have a servant's heart.  I'd appreciate the opportunity to serve both Him and our association.

Elect Dennis Burgess- ORRA Board of Directors 2013
Greetings,

Very seldom are our lives truly boring. Things may be going well one day and poorly the next.  One may be on the brink of despair one evening- yet find themselves celebrating one of their life's greatest accomplishments the following morning.  Good, bad, ups, downs, positives and negatives come our way.

We're all united in that we experience both triumphs and adversities- and most do well in handling the triumphs.  What separates us, though, is how we handle adversities that come our way- for more than the triumphs, … (2 comments)

Legends Realty:  Orlando-area Property Management Report, Discussion

Greetings, everyone.  It's another great Orlando day- temperature's surely climbing (maybe 93 today), but not much in the way of humidity and not many clouds to mention.

The rental and leasing business, though?  That remains hot, hot, hot- and I see little relief in the hesitant tenant prospects' immediate future.

Viewing a property and "getting back to me" in a few days?  Chances are more likely than not that that place will be gone by the time I hear back from you.

Orlando Property Manager Dennis Burgess- A Realtor says goodbye?

Rather lengthy video here... I'll forgive anyone that can't sit through this much of me- I can assure you I never intended this thing to be as long as it turned out to be.  The nature of it, though, lent itself to being an un-abridged and un-edited thing.
