education: Lock your deadbolts first - 03/25/12 04:41 AM
Lock your deadbolts first

Lock your deadbolts first
Every now and then, I'll actually stumble across a bit of knowledge I'd like to share with folks.  Now, that goes against the grain of our business- 'cause we all have Top Secret info than nobody else in the whole wide world could've ever thought of before us.  And if someone were to get hold of that info....well, I just won't even think of that scenario.
So here it goes... Check your locks- both locks- in cases where you have both a deadbolt and a knob/handle lock.  When leaving as you wrap … (6 comments)

Orlando Property Manager Discusses Pool Safety
Summer's come and gone, the turkey's been put away, stockings may be hung by your chimneys somewhere- and folks are just about done with back-yard swimming here in the land of sun and sand.  Pools need attention throughout the summer months while folks are swimming- but once the swimmin's done, you can forget your pool until it's swimmin' time again, right?
Wrong.  Pools need some degree of attention year-round.  In the following video, I discuss the dangers that might result from inattention- as well as the Florida Residential Swimming Pool Safety Act.
As always, comments, … (2 comments)

education: Owner FAQ series, #1- "Should I purchase a home warranty?" - 11/14/11 02:13 PM

Owner FAQ series, #1- "Should I purchase a home warranty?"
Well, here it is.... my first foray into video-land.  This is something I've been "gonna do" and "fixin' to do" for a while- but I've finally sat down and done one. I tackled it right after I found my "round tuit".
My goal here is education. I want to do a number of Owner FAQ's, Tenant or Tenant Prospect FAQ's and others- all in an effort to help homeowners, my fellow Realtors and property managers- and the general public.I also invite your questions, and I'll do my best to give a solid … (6 comments)

Realtor School Summit:  Public Schools and The Housing Recovery

Realtor School Summit:  Public Schools and The Housing Recovery

"What school is that home zoned for?"...."Is is a good school?"

If you've been in this business more than a minute, you've fielded these questions a number of times.  As the flyer states, homebuyers rank schools as a top deciding factor when purchasing a home.

The same applies for tenant prospects.  It's a tough thing to stay current on which school a particular home is zoned for these days- tougher than I've ever seen it- and the issue is … (2 comments)

education: Box Tops For Education - 08/16/11 06:53 AM

Box Tops For Education
It's that time of year again.  Some schools in our area started this week, most will have started by the middle of next week.
Whether your child attends a public school or a private one, one thing they share is the chance to benefit from the continuing Box Tops For Education program.
Participating in this program is great for a number of reasons:
1) Schools receive financial benefits.  Though seemingly small, they do add up.  For smaller schools or those in less fortunate communities, the benefits may very well mean more than you realize.
2) It's … (0 comments)

ORRA Leadership Institute:  Day 2
Day 2 of the Orlando Regional Realtors Association (ORRA) Leadership class.  Half-way through the course, and I can say that it's surely a far greater value than one could imagine for the measly $25 the thing costs.  Folks tend to look at courses in one of two ways:  courses that cost a lot of money, provide some good schoolin' and CE credits- and others that are free, give little education and no CE credits.  The former have always been "better" than the latter.
That's what makes this course special-it's low cost yet valuable-.  a rare case … (2 comments)

education: ORRA Leadership Institute: Day 1 - 06/24/11 02:33 PM
A guy wearing a cowboy hat.... Once a year, the Orlando Regional Realtor Association (ORRA) conducts a Leadership Institute course- it's a 4-day course designed to provide- you guessed it- leadership training.  It's a required course for folks holding any aspirations for the higher offices of our association.  It's a course I stumbled upon at the last minute, really, but one I just couldn't pass up after reading it's curriculum.
Today was Day 1, and there I was- me and a guy wearing a cowboy hat.  This was no John Wayne or Ponderosa-style hat like Hoss or Little Joe wore, mind you- … (2 comments)

education: Why is this a FSBO? - 03/29/11 11:17 AM

"Whyis this a FSBO?"...or "Why is this a FRBO?"  You've undoubtedly asked yourself that question before- as you've perused the real estate section of the local paper, as you've sifted through endless craigslist ads, or as you've read that hand-made sign on the street corner and also tried to figure out why someone with the world's worst penmanship got picked for "sign-writin' detail".  Makes you wonder, and think before you handle them or look to do so.
A read a good post today from a fellow Realtor that says she's done with FSBO's.  They're too much work.  The sellers … (3 comments)
