One thing we don't seem to be teaching our students is how to cross the street. Elementary schools, middle schools, high schools and (apparently) colleges have all missed out on this opportunity to educate folks at a young age that it's best to cross in a crosswalk at an intersection. I think I'd have to say that the one thing that continues to amaze me about the way pedestrians walk out into traffic here is the fact that more often than not, they are within 100 feet of a crosswalk. "What you subsidize, you get more of"- a saying I must have heard over 20 years ago that still holds true today. Whether we're encouraging folks to remain on the public dole by refusing to reform welfare or making life easier for illegal aliens by letting them go to college on the cheap, the way things in America continue to trend leaves less and less to cheer about.

There's been another uptick in pedestrian deaths in our area recently- no doubt owing in part to the Orlando Police Department and others' refusal to enforce our pedestrian traffic laws.
