I joined this Twitter thing- don't shoot!

Anyone who knows me fairly well has known of my long-held aversion to Twitter.  I remember when it went live years ago- and my thinking how absolutely ridiculous it seemed.  "What am I doing?"  None of your dang business, Twitter.

I can't recall who I was speaking with when I first said it, but my canned response whenever folks have asked me about Twitter over the past few years has … (9 comments)

Never give up..."never, ever give up"

Never give up..."never, ever give up"

It seems so simple- don't give up.  It's just a few words and a simple directive...so it should be easy, right?

Wrong.

Anyone who has ever earned anything worth anything, or accomplished anything they're reasonably proud of in their life will surely attest that it wasn't all that easy.  Giving up is easy.  Fighting for what you want when the odds are against you, sweating and training while others play, working long hours while your friends are out partying- that's hard.

Happy Thanksgiving 2012

Today and every day, may the Lord bless and keep you.  May your cupboards never be bare, may your hearts always be filled with gladness and appreciation for what He has provided.
May you have a safe, healthy and Happy Thanksgiving- and may you have safe travels both to and from any of your destinations this weekend.
May God bless those standing watch on bases and aboard ships around the world in order to keep us safe, and may He bless our local law enforcement personnel serving to protect us every day. … (8 comments)

The ultimate of paradoxes…God Bless America
(Photo credit, Reuters)  Call me crazy (it’s happened before), but it’s hard for me to wrap my brain around a system that lets women use 21st-century technology- yet forces them into oppression and a manner of dress that seemingly comes from the 1st century.

One of the articles that this photo accompanied?  It’s a real treat, too- one that discusses plans for building a women-only community.  Nice.

Pedestrian Tales From the Middle of the Road, #30
Today's news brings the 30th death of this sort to light since I started documenting these, and it's another sad one indeed. An older gentleman dies- but a young lady only 20 years old must deal with having run him over as he walked in front of her for the rest of her life.
This comes under the not-so-watchful eyes of Orlando Police Chief Paul Rooney and Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings. Demings is up for re-election this year and is expected to cruise to victory in a landslide. I … (0 comments)

Are you settling for mediocrity?

Are you settling for mediocrity?
A couple of questions that have been bouncin' around between my ears for a day or two now: "Am I settling for mediocrity?" and "If so, how can I keep from doing so?"
Those are tougher to answer than you might think- for it requires one to be very honest with themselves. I'm the only one who truly knows if I'm trying as hard as I can, and you're the only one who knows if you're trying as hard as you possibly can.
If we're trying … (12 comments)

ORRA Congressional Meet & Greet August 6th

From 5:30-7:30 this coming Monday evening, August 6th, our Orlando Regional Realtor Association (ORRA) will join with the Central Florida Veterans, Inc. in hosting a reception for candidates seeking election to the U.S. House of Representatives from Florida's 5th,7th,8th,9th and 10th congressional districts.

In all, 18 candidates are scheduled to attend- but I'd figure the most interesting parts of the evening will come from the District 7 folks.  Re-districting has forced two incumbent Republicans into battle against one another:  10-term District 7 incumbent Congressman John Mica (powerful Chairman of … (2 comments)

Shaking things up...new profile photo

Those of you who have followed this blog for any bit of time probably noticed that I changed my profile photo yesterday afternoon.  I've read others' posts and comments about their profile photos here and there- but I've never been overly concerned about mine as a rule.

I'm not a cute guy or anything- some stuff just can't be helped!  So us lesser-attractive folks must rely on our razor-sharp wit, superior intelligence and wry sense of humor to get us through this crazy world of ours.  … (6 comments)

54 days and counting...supporting Chick-fil-A

Today's message from "the trail" is a fairly simple one.  I support Chick-fil-A.  I've supported Chick-fil-A since 1985, and I will continue to support Chick-fil-A.

The message in the current "Chick-fil-A debate" is equally clear:  Chick-fil-A does not stand for hate- never has.  Folks aren't coerced into eating at Chick-fil-A- never will be.  If you don't feel you can eat at Chick-fil-A because Dan Cathy's words are not in keeping with your beliefs, so be it.  Stand by your beliefs as I'll stand by mine.

"Not in there- my mom has strep...."
I've never had strep throat.  I speak about it from time to time, though.  I guess it comes from my odd sense of humor that finds it pretty dang funny that I can have epilepsy, narcolepsy, sleep apnea and a peripheral mononeuropathy- but I've never had the flu, bronchiitis, chicken pox or other any other "childhood diseases"...or strep throat.
I do know the ol' streptococcal bacteria is contagious, though- and that made a showing today just a tad bit awkward. It's … (0 comments)

HARP me this, HAMP me that...
Underwater owners still singin' the blues...
Some things just don't seem right- never have, probably never will. One of those things is how some folks enjoy laying up in their homes without paying a dime for as long as their luck holds- while those choosing the path of right in looking to honor their mortgage obligations while underwater struggle and struggle.

Aurora's no Columbine, Sanford no Selma
Like many Americans, I was at a loss for words when I first heard the news out of Aurora, Colorado last week.  The news that the opening-night excitement of one of this year's blockbuster films had been trumped by an actual tragedy of epic proportions was (and remains) truly disturbing.
We've seen what's sadly become a bit of a routine when things like this occur:  interviews with the (alleged) killer's friends and neighbors that can't imagine him doing anything of the sort, school teachers that … (6 comments)

When no signs is a good sign

When no signs is a good sign
We hear a lot of phrases with regard to "signs". "....looking for a sign", "I've seen the signs" and "I see no sign of..." being but a few. We're always looking for signs- but when is it good not to find any signs?
We'll bounce from the literary world to the literal one now. I'll predict with a bit of confidence that anyone trying to exit a driveway near the stretch of signs above would welcome a day without "signs".

I have humbly announced my candidacy for a position on our Orlando Regional Realtor Association (ORRA)'s Board of Directors for the coming year, 2013.  If eligible, I respectfully request your vote for me- so that I might have the privilege of serving out Association.

My Lord and Savior Jesus Christ has blessed me with many things I'll never claim to deserve- but one of His blessings is that I have a servant's heart.  I'd appreciate the opportunity to serve both Him and our association.

It's Kegerator Thursday!
As everyone that's spent a decent amount of time on the road showing properties will tell you, you never know what awaits behind that door.
Could be a pitbull, could be a property your tenants have trashed (or are in the process of trashing)...could be pizza boxes under a bed or a brown pool in the back.
Or...it could be The Kegerator...

Elect Dennis Burgess- ORRA Board of Directors 2013
Greetings,

Very seldom are our lives truly boring. Things may be going well one day and poorly the next.  One may be on the brink of despair one evening- yet find themselves celebrating one of their life's greatest accomplishments the following morning.  Good, bad, ups, downs, positives and negatives come our way.

We're all united in that we experience both triumphs and adversities- and most do well in handling the triumphs.  What separates us, though, is how we handle adversities that come our way- for more than the triumphs, … (2 comments)

ORRA recommends candidates for August 14th election
One of the duties I've taken very seriously this year is my place on our Orlando Regional Realtors Association (ORRA)'s Candidate Screening Committee.  A number of folks joined me in looking to do our best to vet candidates seeking election to local school boards- as well as those seeking seats on city and county commissions, state and U.S. congressional offices and the office of Orange County Sheriff.
The following- from our association's website, www.orlrealtor.com, gives information on whom ORRA has chosen to support in the aforementioned races.
If local and eligible to vote, … (2 comments)

It's Hurricane Season, Florida...
It's admittedly hard to get into the ol' Hurricane Season spirit, you know?  We don't swap Hurricane Season gifts...don't have Hurricane Season turkey.  Heck, we don't even get to go huntin' Hurricane Season eggs!
All of us do need to remember to make our Hurricane Season resolutions, though:  resolve to know where the nearest shelters are located, resolve to prepare our homes before a storm smacks us, and resolve to know where to turn for information during an emergency.
I moved here to the Orlando area (Apopka, FL) in July of '07, and I haven't … (4 comments)

Legends Realty:  Orlando-area Property Management Report, Discussion

Greetings, everyone.  It's another great Orlando day- temperature's surely climbing (maybe 93 today), but not much in the way of humidity and not many clouds to mention.

The rental and leasing business, though?  That remains hot, hot, hot- and I see little relief in the hesitant tenant prospects' immediate future.

Viewing a property and "getting back to me" in a few days?  Chances are more likely than not that that place will be gone by the time I hear back from you.
