bandera real estate: A LONG TIME COMING!! - 03/20/12 02:45 AM
Sweetheart Realty has been on the Corner of 13th St. a nd Mulberry in Bandera Texas for 12 years, going on 13. Pretty amazing considering how many businesses in Bandera have come and gone in that amount of time!  It hasn't always been easy, more uneasy than easy I would say. Endurance and Persistance are my new middle names, especially since 2007 when the mortgage market started it's tumble.
But that's a story for another day. The purpose of this blog entry is to proclaim that Sweetheart Realty has finally "Made It" in the Bandera Business Community!! (tongue in cheek).   I … (3 comments)

bandera real estate: BP FINALLY CAPS WELL- A VERY GOOD THING! - 07/18/10 12:53 PM
Seeing that cap on BP's well in the Gulf of Mexico was a relief for Gulf Coast residents and Americans in general.  We all should breath a sigh of relief and pray that this cap will hold, and the cleanup will be successful and all the oil will be cleaned up and everyone can get back to normal.
If the cap doesn't hold, or if there is a leak, BP may have to remove the cap and gallons of oil will spill into the Gulf again, jeopardizing the livelihood of millions of Americans.  The tourist industry in 5 states is badly … (3 comments)

bandera real estate: THOUGHTS ON JULY 4TH - 06/15/10 11:27 AM
Think about what July 4th means- what it is we celebrate.  Yes, July 4th is a great family day of get togethers and bar b ques, parades, fireworks,  and brass bands playing marches and toe-tapping tunes.  We wear our red, white & blue- we wave and display our flags. For the most part, we take this day for granted- have we ever thought about the price that was paid for the freedoms we enjoy?
Would we  be willing to pay that price again if our country and way of life was threatened?  How many of us would step into danger for … (0 comments)

bandera real estate: EVERYTHING IS BLOOMING EXCEPT ME!! - 04/15/10 12:45 PM
Spring is one of the most wonderful times of the year-all the trees and plants start to bud, flowers burst forth, rain drops from the sky, and rivers and creeks flow.  What could be better than that! The Texas Hill Country is like a beautiful bouquet meant for all to enjoy.  That is, if you're not allergic to everything green!!!  Instead of beauty and pleasure, I have pain, discomfort and nausea.  Totally not good, especially for a Real Estate Broker trying to sell the great Texas Hill Country.  This week was oak pollen an inch thick on my car and driveway, … (5 comments)

bandera real estate: The Thaw Has Begun - 03/19/10 04:05 AM
The temperatures have been in the 70's for the past week and it feels great! Does that mean that Spring has finally arrived in the Texas Hill Country?   The grass is greening, the trees are budding, the deer are running and the phone is ringing!! Are those things connected??  You bet they are!  The tourists have arrived in Downtown Bandera and the cash registers are ringing, the bars are full of revelers and special events have been scheduled to increase the traffic count, and I'm happy with that!
Warm weather and green grass is required for contracts to be written, rain and … (5 comments)

bandera real estate: LOVE IS IN THE AIR - 01/19/10 11:27 AM
February is upon us, a wonderful time of year for most of us.  The grey skies of January make way for the delightful sunshine and hope of February, with Spring not far behind.
Valentines Day, the day of love, brings out the best in friend and foe alike, not just by giving cards and flowers, butr with appreciation and good will towards others.  The earthquake in Haiti, tragic as it was, has unleashed an outpouring of generosity from this country, even tho the economic times in the US are not good.  The images of little children hungry and alone, have touched … (1 comments)

bandera real estate: CELEBRATE LIFE!! - 12/16/09 03:24 AM
Today is my mother's 89th birthday, a fantastic achievement to say the least!  She has been illness free all this time, just plugging away as she does, talking all the time, asking questions, giving her opinion, just like she did when I was a wee lass.   I would very much like to take the trip to the Florida Nursing Home where she resides, but the budget says otherwise.
The year 2009 has not been a great one for real estate practioners.  Yes, my overhead is low, I am very frugal with my expenses, but should I spend my extra cash to … (6 comments)

bandera real estate: LET'S GIVE THANKS! - 11/18/09 03:36 AM
As Thanksgiving approaches, I am sitting here thinking about all the things that I have to be thankful for this year. As a real estate broker, I am very thankful that I am still in business.  Even in our small community, I know of other realtors that have had to seek employment elsewhere in order to make ends meet. Some brokers have sold their businesses, or gone to work for other brokers, I am thankful that I still want to and can keep my doors open.  Sales are definitely down from last year, the traffic and the calls are half of what … (4 comments)

bandera real estate: Why I Love The Medina Lake Cajun Festival - 09/28/08 08:28 AM
The Medina Lake Annual Cajun Festival has always had a special place in my heart. Fifteen years ago, my future husband and I had our first date at the Cajun Festival.  I had also just moved to Lakehills with my 2 children and had never attended the event before that day.  I got all dressed up in my  best party dress, and I took along my 12 year old son for a chaperon.  Can't be too careful,  I worked with this guy, but didn't know him well.  I also had volunteered to work on the food line, handing out crawfish etoufee, … (3 comments)

bandera real estate: MY PHONE IS NOT RINGING!! - 07/06/08 01:16 PM
In years past, on holiday weekends, or anytime that I plan a trip somewhere or try to take a vacation, invariably the office follows me, the listing that hasn't received any showings or calls suddenly everyone wants to see or wants info faxed to them.  I take my phone with me on trips but this time I did not take my laptop and I don't have a portable fax ( nor do I take any files with me, Thank God!).
This 4th of July weekend was an exception, though.  All the 3 hour way up to see my beloved grandson in … (18 comments)

bandera real estate: New Life for Bandera's Cabaret Dancehall - 02/13/08 12:21 PM
To many in Bandera, the Cabaret is a national treasure, an historic landmark, having been on Main Street for 70 years. Many a young man and woman had their first dance there, their first kiss, their first longneck.  Well, it has been sitting empty for at least 2 years now (seems to be more) while new drinking and dancing establishments have cropped up to take it's place.  But not in the heart of the Bandera faithful, the Bandera Community Foundation recently met to discuss the possibility of a purchase by the foundation to give it new life as a museum and … (8 comments)

bandera real estate: Small Town - Big Heart - 02/03/08 07:52 AM
Bandera Texas is definitely a small town- in fact, Bandera is the only incorporated city in the entire county.  The population hovers around 1000 residents, in about a 2 mile square area.  They are happy with who and where they are, and I don't expect they'll change anytime soon.  In fact, the hub of commercial activity has moved to the highway that intersects the City of Bandera, Highway 16.  Without any zoning in place, the highway is a hodge podge of office buildings, strip centers, and car dealers and retail.  Water and sewer needs will increase as more businesses move to this … (1 comments)
