bandera texas: A LONG TIME COMING!! - 03/20/12 02:45 AM
Sweetheart Realty has been on the Corner of 13th St. a nd Mulberry in Bandera Texas for 12 years, going on 13. Pretty amazing considering how many businesses in Bandera have come and gone in that amount of time!  It hasn't always been easy, more uneasy than easy I would say. Endurance and Persistance are my new middle names, especially since 2007 when the mortgage market started it's tumble.
But that's a story for another day. The purpose of this blog entry is to proclaim that Sweetheart Realty has finally "Made It" in the Bandera Business Community!! (tongue in cheek).   I … (3 comments)

bandera texas: BANDERA TEXAS-THE TOP OF THE NEWS!! - 10/21/11 05:30 AM
The San Antonio Newsmedia has been spending alot of time in Bandera lately.  The Bandera City Council and the Bandera Police Department have been going head to head for the past 2 months. The conflict has divided the town, to say the least.  The entire Police force has been suspended and the Bandera County Sheriff's Department has been handling law enforcement for the City of Bandera.  Investigations are on-going, tempers are flaring, and some in the town are circulating a recall petition for Council member Maggie Schumacher, who is being blamed for the fiasco.  I have not attended any of the council … (0 comments)

bandera texas: BP FINALLY CAPS WELL- A VERY GOOD THING! - 07/18/10 12:53 PM
Seeing that cap on BP's well in the Gulf of Mexico was a relief for Gulf Coast residents and Americans in general.  We all should breath a sigh of relief and pray that this cap will hold, and the cleanup will be successful and all the oil will be cleaned up and everyone can get back to normal.
If the cap doesn't hold, or if there is a leak, BP may have to remove the cap and gallons of oil will spill into the Gulf again, jeopardizing the livelihood of millions of Americans.  The tourist industry in 5 states is badly … (3 comments)

bandera texas: JUNE 14th IS FLAG DAY - 05/18/10 11:45 AM
After Memorial Day has passed and all the parades and bar b ques are over, most of us start to look forward to the Fourth of July, when more parades, fireworks and family gatherings are planned and anticipated.
But, almost forgotten is June 14th- FLAG DAY- not a big day for parades and family gatherings, but very important in the history  of the USA.  All of us had learned in elementary school about Betsy Ross and how she sewed the first flag of the newly formed United States of America.  On June 14th 1777 the Continental Congress passed a resolution specifying … (2 comments)

bandera texas: EVERYTHING IS BLOOMING EXCEPT ME!! - 04/15/10 12:45 PM
Spring is one of the most wonderful times of the year-all the trees and plants start to bud, flowers burst forth, rain drops from the sky, and rivers and creeks flow.  What could be better than that! The Texas Hill Country is like a beautiful bouquet meant for all to enjoy.  That is, if you're not allergic to everything green!!!  Instead of beauty and pleasure, I have pain, discomfort and nausea.  Totally not good, especially for a Real Estate Broker trying to sell the great Texas Hill Country.  This week was oak pollen an inch thick on my car and driveway, … (5 comments)

bandera texas: CELEBRATE LIFE!! - 12/16/09 03:24 AM
Today is my mother's 89th birthday, a fantastic achievement to say the least!  She has been illness free all this time, just plugging away as she does, talking all the time, asking questions, giving her opinion, just like she did when I was a wee lass.   I would very much like to take the trip to the Florida Nursing Home where she resides, but the budget says otherwise.
The year 2009 has not been a great one for real estate practioners.  Yes, my overhead is low, I am very frugal with my expenses, but should I spend my extra cash to … (6 comments)

bandera texas: LET'S GIVE THANKS! - 11/18/09 03:36 AM
As Thanksgiving approaches, I am sitting here thinking about all the things that I have to be thankful for this year. As a real estate broker, I am very thankful that I am still in business.  Even in our small community, I know of other realtors that have had to seek employment elsewhere in order to make ends meet. Some brokers have sold their businesses, or gone to work for other brokers, I am thankful that I still want to and can keep my doors open.  Sales are definitely down from last year, the traffic and the calls are half of what … (4 comments)

bandera texas: REBIRTH OF BANDERA'S OWN SHOE BIZ - 08/16/08 12:18 PM
Back on August 28, 2007 I wrote a blog about "Devastating Fire on Main St. Bandera" in which I told about the wipe out of two major businesses in Bandera Texas.
Shoe Biz, owned by Peggy Ashmore opened on April 17, 1987 and has been a constant in Bandera ever since. The store carries not just shoes, (Keds, Clarks, and many other distinguished brands), but a full line of womens clothing, accessories and jewelry. Hers was the place to find out what styles were new and what colors were in this year.  It is where the menfolk could buy that oh … (0 comments)

bandera texas: ANOTHER GREAT MEAL AT THE OST IN BANDERA! - 08/10/08 10:13 AM
The routine is the same for us each Sunday morning- call the OST (Old Spanish Trail) to see what  the lunch buffet is today. That is important because that call determines where my husband an I will have lunch that day.  If the OST is having something that I don't like (turkey and dressing for example) then we go somewhere else for lunch.  I've called each Sunday morning so often, that Linda (the hostess with the mostess) already knows it's me (by my phone#) and just tells me what the buffet is that day.
Well, today was roast beef, broccoli with cheese, boiled … (4 comments)

bandera texas: TAKE A RIDE ON "BOOTS" - 07/20/08 12:10 PM
Main Street Bandera was unusually busy this morning, not sure if it was due to visitors staying overnite after the wrestling matches at the Longhorn Saloon, or visitors passing through on their way to Lost Maples State Park, or Hill Country Natural Area or cowboys coming to town to stay for the American Cowboy Celebration this Saturday.
There were cowboys on horseback strolling the main thoroughfare in search of something (drink, maybe) and wannabe cowboys watching them.  We ran into Jeanne Parker, owner of Bandera Carriage, hanging out on Main Street with her buddy Boots.  Jeanne operates a horse and carriage business in town, … (2 comments)

Bandera Texas is known as "The Cowboy Capital" and that will be evident on Saturday July 26th starting at noon at the Courthouse lawn. and ending at the Frontier Times Museum on 13th Street with a Cowboy Dinner put on by the Deadwood Hollow Ranch Cook Team.
In between those two events, there will be plenty to do for young and old, the Cowboys on Main singers, historians, trick ropers, music and arts and crafts, face painting for the little ones and of course, a cow chip tossing contest.

bandera texas: The New York Times visits Bandera Texas - 04/27/08 10:48 AM
In the New York Times Great Homes and Destination section of April 18, 2008, Robert Strauss describes the sleepy town of Bandera as "A Not-Too-Wild-West Cowboy Town".  He goes on to describe how part time residents and full time real estate agents came to make Bandera their home.
Being that this article is about Real Estate, he goes on to describe what average prices are on residential and ranch property.  Homes range from $105,000 for a cottage in town, to $10,000 an acre for ranches.  He doesn't describe individual listings, but talks mostly about why the residents moved here and what they … (0 comments)

bandera texas: "Thunder in the Hills" Strikes Bandera - 04/06/08 10:10 AM
Bandera's Metal Cowboys took over the town for the second time in two weeks this weekend- the roar was deafening, unless, of course, you turned off your hearing aid.
The streets were full of crome and leather, the gas stations, the parks, the restaurants, had no space, no seats for us locals. Tunes blared from a loud speaker at City Hall- everthing from country to heavy metal, just what you wanted to hear as you headed home with the kids on a Saturday afternoon.
I like seeing the different types of bikes, some with neon lights on the sides, different types of riders, unique … (0 comments)
