Vilano Beach Main Street was designated by Florida's Secretary of State Kurt S. Browning as the Florida Main Street Program of the Month for March 2009. Vilano Beach was designated a Florida Main Street Community in 2003. Communities are selected for this award based on active participation in the Florida Main Street Program. Vilano Beach's waterfront location adds to its ability to attract interest as a Florida Main Street community. There are two waterfronts on its main street ---the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the Intracoastal Waterway on the other. town center: Vilano Beach Streetscape Completion Celebration - Oct 17 4-7:30 p.m.

This is your friendly reminder that tomorrow, October 17th from 4-7:30 p.m at the Vilano Beach oceanfront pavilion will be a celebration of the completion of the streetscape. Please come and invite your friends as the public is invited. Dignitaries include Congressman Mica, St. Johns County commissioners and commissioners-elect, representatives from Callaway Contracting, RS&H Engineering, and others. The Chamber Singers from the St. Johns Performing Arts Center, S. Augustine High School will be singing the National Anthem. Restaurants participating with samples are The Reef, Caps, Kingfish, Creekside and Crab Grabbers.

town center: Vilano Beach Driveover (formally Roundabout)

At the intersection of Coastal Highway and Vilano Road a new Sea Turtle/Dolphin "roundabout" has been installed. I use the term "roundabout" as it is actually a driveover roundabout to enable emergency vehicles to get into the community. However, let's drive around it, okay? Let me know what you think. I think it's lovely. UPDATE: The county has informed me that this is indeed a driveover and NOT a roundabout. Once the paving has occurred it will be obvious in that none of this area will then be raised. So, drive on over it. June 27th a.m. picture

town center: Bluebird of Happiness is Home

I am happy to report the return of our Bluebird of Happiness to the Vilano Beach Town Center. The Bluebird of Happiness is a tall bird (I'm guessing about 8' tall) that was two oranges on top of each other that used to be in front of Newt's Hotel. He was originally orange and arrived in Vilano in th 1940s encouraging people to purchase orange juice. He was a local icon in Vilano Beach for years.
