The owner is Vilano Beach resident, Jillian Bos, who also owns Frugal Fashionista and Gourmet Road Show, a catering company. I enjoyed their menu for this weekend a couple of nights ago. Vilano Beach IS getting a Publix. UPDATE: OPENING MID JANUARY 2012 Update: Per the Publix spokesperson, Dwaine Stevens, Publix will be opening the second quarter of 2012. The developer's website had said late 2011. It's official. The sign announcing the arrival of Publix was installed this morning in the Vilano Beach Town Center at the intersection of Coastal Highway and Poplar. We are getting closer to our dream of a grocery store in the Vilano Beach Town Center. On June 16, 2010, Karen Taylor, Land Planner representing Land Design South gave a presentation of the new plans for the grocery store quadrant at the Vilano Beach Main Street meeting held at the Vilano Beach Hampton Inn. Ms. Taylor shared with us that this current design was approved by the grocer after reviewing 20 different plans. The new plans and variances were needed for two main requests from the grocer. Pawnee's Cafe & Fine Wines last wine tasting at 165 Vilano Road in the Vilano Beach Town Center was held March 12, 2010. The economy got the best of this fun, local establishment in the Vilano Beach Town Center, but not the best of Pawnee. We had fun and it was a very bittersweet evening. She will be missed. The United States Army Materiel Command Band will be performing the "Soundtrack of Soldiers" in the Vilano Beach Town Center on Monday, March 15, 2010. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and the performance starts at 7:30 p.m. The concert is free, but to get a reserved seat you need to go to http://www.armyband.us. A proposed grocery store for Vilano Beach is hopefully coming soon. St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners today approved all non-zoning variance for the 3.64 acres in the Vilano Beach Town Center that is bounded by Coastal Highway, Vilano Road, and Poplar Avenue. The developers will now hopefully purchase the property from the FDIC and move forward with their plans to bring a much needed grocery store to Vilano Beach. The timeframe the commissioners agreed to was 30 months for the building permits to be approved.

The second Design Review Board Meeting for the proposed grocery store for the Vilano Beach Town Center will be today, Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at 3 p.m. at the South Ponte Vedra Civic AssociationBuilding in S. Ponte Vedra. This building is located north of Serenata Beach Club and just before the Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve Environmental Education Center. There was a Design Review Board (DBR) Meeting on December 16th, 2009. The DRB supported all the variances requested by the developer, but asked for more detail on the sign variances. Vilano Beach grocery store's plans will be reviewed this Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at the North Shores Improvement Association's building at 120 Meadow Avenue in Vilano Beach. The North Coastal Corridor Overlay District Design Review Board will meet at 3 p.m. to review both the plans for the grocery store and for restoring our Bluebird of Happiness as public art. At the North Shores Improvement Association meeting on Monday, November 10, 2008, Farid ("Fred") Ashdji presented his conceptual plans for a Wyndham Hotel in place of his Town and County Motel. It will feature a "new" art deco design, meaning he hopes future architects will emulate his design. He hired an interior decorator, too to ensure the interior has a French Art Deco décor to establish a warm feeling. He plans to break ground in 2009 with completion 18 months later. Finally! And yes, I am saying this as an impatient person that lives in the area and am tired of the "speed bumps". The roads in the Vilano Beach Town Center are now being paved. The work should be done within a week. So, we will now be able to drive over the roundabout that is really a drive-over at the intersection of Coastal Highway and Vilano Road. Vilano Beach Town Center's fountains are now operational effective July 16, 2008. If you haven't seen St. Augustine's new "attraction", please stop by soon. The fountains are nice during the day, and incredible at night with the lights! Paving is supposed to start tomorrow, July 24, 2008 and take 4 to 5 days.
