artist white county: Remember this house? Searcy AR. Center St. Arni Anderson print. - 08/12/18 05:16 PM

Here's a snapshot of the framed print of an older house that was in Searcy AR.  It is gone now and I am wondering how many folks in Searcy might remember the house.  This print was done by Arni Anderson, an artist who attended Harding.  It is dated '74.  Arni is still an active artist and lives in Oklahoma.
I bought the print at an estate sale over the weekend and was determined to identify the old home.  In the book, "Searcy, Arkansas:  A Frontier Town Grows Up With America," by Raymond Muncy , on page 112, I found it.  The picture … (2 comments)

artist white county: Master artist, master framer, Searcy AR Terry W Williams. - 01/12/17 08:04 AM

I consider this a small masterpiece done by our local artist, Terry W Williams, and I had to do some master bargaining to get it from him.  Terry painted this in 1970 and he says it is a portrait of his dad, Nathan Hale Williams from Sunflower Co, Mississippi.  He titled it "My Share of the Crop."
Terry did not dwell on the real meaning of the title but history tells us how there was a lot of share-cropping in the South.  Farmers worked for their share of the crops and the crops might be too puny to do much sharing.  He … (2 comments)

artist white county: Phyllis Alexander is eggs'traordinary artist! Searcy AR. - 09/22/15 10:14 AM

I love this little fellow and treasure this egg.  It is a painting on an egg, ostrich egg I think, and I bought it years ago at a now-forgotten fund raising event.  It was painted by Phyllis Alexander, Searcy AR artist with a tremendous following.
When touring properties, I always express pleasure when I see a Phyllis Alexander.  This one is an example of her excellent watercolor portraits that are found in our area.
Now, what has happened?   She, being my neighbor, being a fantastically creative artist, and being the owner of several back-yard chickens, has brought me a gift!

artist white county: Surprise! You find yourself in an old book. Clipping saved. - 11/30/14 06:35 AM
A death in the family is always sad.  Then folks start trying to clean out the belongings of the deceased.  You never know what you will find and some things are from a past generation.  Such was my experience this past week.
The book was "Grandma's Attic Treasures" and it was published in 1882.  It is an old, old book and belonged to my child's grandmother.  Grandmother passed away a long time ago but she must be the one who put the clipping in the book.  Even the clipping is now old, dated May 19, 1982.
It was when I was … (6 comments)

artist white county: Let's look at Art for a blog. Who painted this picture? White County artist. - 02/13/13 11:41 PM
Anita has told me to get off the bridges.  On this blog, we have worked on filling stations and tornadoes and railroads and a little bit of everything except possibly ART!
And in case you don't remember I am an old teacher of Art.  So naturally I love and respect good art work.  Soooo...
Who can tell me which artist did this lovely sketch?  The brush stroks are masterful and the color selections are excellent.  It is quite old and the artist has become prominent.

Here's a closeup so you can better see the brush strokes.  It is an oil … (28 comments)
