barbara duncan searcy arkansas: Another cute kid from Searcy AR? Who was this? - 02/18/17 10:16 AM

I was just visiting my friend, looking at the pictures on her wall when this one jumped out and grabbed me!  The look!  The expression!  The charm was just too much.  Was she trying to smile or trying not to smile just because she was not enjoying the session?  I am also thinking that it was one of the photographs that was hand colored back then.
I grabbed the picture off the wall and told my friend that I had to put this one on my blog that has so much Searcy AR history on it.  In 2010 I put up another … (10 comments)

barbara duncan searcy arkansas: Permit me to brag. NAR President Chris Polychron from Arkansas. - 12/15/14 05:35 AM

A lady can brag, can't she?
Here I am on the extreme right at some national or state REALTOR meeting.  I can't actually remember the date but we were all younger.  On the right, second row, was Chris Polychron, a good friend to all of us in Arkansas.
On the front row with me was Tina Daniel, left, and her mother, Johnnie Beavers, in the center.  Tina died just a few short months ago and we miss her all the time.  She was a CRS instructor and traveled all over in her teaching career.  She was from Searcy also.

barbara duncan searcy arkansas: You wanna see the 50's? Here it is. Beebe AR girl's basketball team. - 11/25/14 04:08 AM
So you think the 50's meant poodle skirts?  I grew up in the 50's and never heard of a poodle shirt.
BUT........this picture is a perfect depiction of the 50's.  It is supplied by Super Sleuth Anita Fuller from her personal collection of photos.  These girls made up the junior Beebe AR basketball team in 1951 and 1952.  Anita played for Searcy.  I asked her for a picture of Searcy's team and she had none.  None!  The yearbook did not have a single picture of girl's sports because they were unimportant.  Later on the Searcy Schools eliminated the team completely!   … (11 comments)

barbara duncan searcy arkansas: Where was this lady posing in old Searcy Arkansas? I think here..... - 10/06/09 12:27 PM

This picture is showing our queen of Searcy, Corrine Hart, who grew up in Searcy and helped Searcy grow up.  She lived to be over 100.  She is Anita Fuller's mother and Anita supplied this photo.
Where is she posing?  I think it is the statue that is on the Court Square.  I went there today and took a picture of Searcy as it is today.  I got the statue seat, the lamp and possibly the three windowed building in the background.

I'll wait for my Searcy experts to tell me whether I'm right or not.  This picture shows … (22 comments)

barbara duncan searcy arkansas: Kensett Arkansas. A largely unchanged small railroad town near Searcy Arkansas. - 07/27/09 12:26 AM

I've had to visit our White County Arkansas city of Kensett several times lately because I've been sent two REOs in the small town.
Kensett is a city in White County, Arkansas, United States. Located adjacent to the east side of Searcy, the city is the hometown of noted legislator Wilbur D. Mills, who was influential throughout the 1960s in the United States House of Representatives. The population was 1,791 at the 2000 census.
It was a successful little railroad town and still has lots of train traffic through the town.  Here's one of the tracks that shoots off the main … (20 comments)

barbara duncan searcy arkansas: Buy this house and you can use my lawn mower for free. REO neighbor - 07/01/09 12:06 AM
Once again, with REO properties you never know what or who you'll find.
Walk softly and carry a big stick could be a good motto!
Look who greeted me today at this new foreclosure property.  He was in the neighbor's yard doing a fine job of mowing the yard.
The neighbor said he'd borrowed him from HIS neighbor hoping some of the overgrown  weeds and shrubs could be modified.
I think that if he is a loaner, we could use him on this yard because even though it is in town it is a big yard.
We really don't need this … (28 comments)

barbara duncan searcy arkansas: Watermelon time is just around the corner. - 05/31/09 09:15 AM

I wrote a blog about my husband's tomato growing a few days ago.  There is nothing that is more anticipated in the South than home-grown tomatoes.
Except perhaps home-grown watermelons!  I'm eating cantaloupe right now and I've always been too fastidious to really enjoy watermelon.
I love this picture but keep cringing as I think of the pretty little outfits that are worn by these children having watermelon juice all over them.  When folks had few clothes and had no automatic washers and dryers clean up would have been a problem.  But isn't it a great old picture!

barbara duncan searcy arkansas: The William J. Clinton Presidential Center Little Rock AR - 03/19/09 05:31 AM

I finally got my husband to visit the Bill Clinton Library, as it is generally known, as we went to participate in a putt-off contest in Little Rock.  He could have won a trip to the Masters but alas, he lost.
The Library is located at 1200 President Clinton Avenue in Little Rock Arkansas and has been ridiculed as looking like a trailer but is extremely nice and well laid out.  It is also near River Market, a great restored area near the river which has become a favorite gathering spot and tourist attraction.

At the time of our … (9 comments)
