blogs: Gone. Dr. Miller's dental office at 204 S Charles St., Searcy AR. - 05/21/16 10:53 PM

Reduced to rubble, so reported my creative daughter as she sent me this picture.  It is the picture of what was left of the old dental office of Dr. Robert Miller, who practiced there for so many years.  I was one of his patients and she probably was too.  Here's the old view of it.
Speaking of creative, it was always a pleasure to go into his office because he was an artist.  There were original works of art on his walls and he was an expert wood-working expert with beautiful turned bowls made of special wood.   Before his death in 2013 … (6 comments)

blogs: 16th Section Singers, Floyd Bradberry teacher, AR - 04/03/16 07:06 AM

A picture from our own White County is on ebay right now.  It is a picture with the inscription "16th Section Singing School"  teacher Floyd Bradberry or Floyd Brobbery.  At the ebay site there are close-ups of parts of the picture so you can see if any of your relatives are there.  If it was a singing school it had singers of all ages.  The item also says that the 16th Section Church is outside Beebe and McRae AR.  Wonder which one of the men in the picture is the teacher Floyd.
Google gives the address of the 16th Section Church … (9 comments)

blogs: Historic card for sale on ebay. The Oak Tree Inn in McRae Arkansas. - 10/24/11 09:17 AM
Here's a very interesting picture of a restaurant that was located in the small town of McRae Arkansas, about 8 miles from Searcy Arkansas.  I hope someone from McRae will find it and buy it.  Do any of you remember it?

Here's the back side of the post card and I wish we could see the inside!  Or perhaps some of the Sleuths know the former owners.

blogs: Here's how my good friend Larry helps me and deserves thanks. - 03/21/08 11:41 PM
SOLD Isn't this a pretty sold sign? Larry DeGroat, who also blogs from Searcy AR has been my friend for many years. I tease him and tell him that when I first met him his car was filled with flowered car seats and had no room for real estate passengers.
He had three children, two of them girls, and possibly all still in car seats. They are all almost grown up now and he has been a really good father to those children.
Larry is one of the most mentally alert guys that I have ever met. He, along with Al Gore, practically … (12 comments)

blogs: Those true stories about real estate deals? Small town appropriate? - 02/08/08 11:49 AM
I was reading through several blogs over the past few weeks and really get into some of those stories that you relay to us on ActiveRain.  They are first hand, interesting, and pretty specific.  I, however, live in a small town of 20,000 where lots of us know lots of people!
If I tell you a first hand story and it is viewed by many people in this town, the readers would probably know exactly who I was talking about and what the transaction was.  Being fairly new to this blogging business, I'm not sure how to have things read by members … (6 comments)

blogs: Rat's reason for liking blogs. Pearls before Swine Comic Strip. - 11/28/07 12:51 AM
Pearls Before Swine is a comic strip written by Stephan Pastis and it helps me start my day.  Today the strip was about blogs.  http://www.comics.com/comics/pearls/
Rat says he likes blogs "because they provide their frustrated creator with the delusional outlet of being a published author, sort of like how the prison warden lets the psychotic inmate scribble 'poetry' on the cell wall so he doesn't beat his bunkmate with a toilet seat."
Could it be?  Could we be like that?

blogs: Deciding between ebay and Active Rain...... - 10/18/07 02:17 PM
Posting things on ebay is great fun.  Getting up each morning and checking to see if you have a buyer adds spice to life.  It doesn't matter if the item is for sale for only $2, it is still a thrill to think someone out there wants that item.  Learning the different ways of bidding and putting up things for bidding has taken me a long time but it was worth it.
If the items don't sell, I consider the entry fees a contribution to ebay.  I bought some stock several years ago and I can rationalize that I actually gave the … (3 comments)

blogs: Be careful what you say when showing a house. - 10/16/07 05:32 AM
We all have different tastes in houses and how we would decorate them.  Through the years I've learned not to express MY opinion too strongly about a house and how it appears.  I remember having this house that was in a pretty good area with a pretty good lot but a widower lived there.
Seems his wife had been dead for some time and he'd never cleaned or dusted the place.  Dust had settled all over everything.  Nothing had been picked up;  it was awful!  I had a tendency to apologize for its condition when I showed it.
To my surprise, an … (6 comments)

blogs: I just love Google Earth and you will too.. - 10/15/07 09:38 AM
It has always been difficult to figure out where property begins and ends if it is a parcel in the country.  I used to order aerial view photos from the Arkansas Highway Department.  I'd pay about $40 for an enlargement of the area.  They were great in helping sell acreage.
Now we have Google Earth, the greatest thing to hit the internet for awhile.  Type in an address and watch the earth come closer and closer until you are there.  I called my husband in and said, "Watch as we go visit the children."  I typed in the addresses of the three … (5 comments)

blogs: I finally got noticed..... - 10/15/07 06:20 AM
As I wrestled with problems in my office, a fellow agent came by and said that he'd found and enjoyed my blog!!  WHAT!!  Someone from my office found it?   Read it?  Enjoyed it?   Well, not exactly.  He'd found it and commented on it but he'd not read all of it.
Not reading it is understandable.  He said he'd put in a search for Searcy AR homes and my blog had pulled up in addition to my website on Homes.com.  That "pulling up" is what we're after, isn't it.....being found on the web and being found by people who want to list and … (3 comments)

blogs: I'm afraid I've been bribed by a seller... - 10/10/07 05:11 AM
Today is Wednesday, our day to go and tour the new listings.  My husband the car dealer once said, "You real estate agents and insurance agents have it made because you don't own the inventory and have to pay interest on the inventory."  Over the years I've realized how profound that statement is because we are lucky to have huge amounts of inventory of houses and land that we can sell and never pay a penny of interest!
So the least we can do is try to be familiar with the inventory.  So many agents sit in the office and never … (11 comments)

blogs: Impressive things that are everyday events... - 09/24/07 05:19 AM

Atomic clocks!  My daughter decided we needed one...perhaps because we couldn't set the clocks we had and perhaps she knew we'd never heard of an atomic clock.  For the few of you who are slower than we are, an atomic clock is one that you never have to set.  It sets itself and it knows what time zone you are in!!  We were impressed!
This morning our atomic clock was 15 minutes slow.  I knew it couldn't be the clock so I changed the battery.  That thing went to work resetting itself.  But it set itself to the wrong time zone.  I … (2 comments)
