Duncans Car Lot
A few years back, this is the way 702 East Race Street appeared. It was the home of Duncans Used Cars and also the Chrysler Plymouth dealership. The small sign in the background says Duncans Used Cars and my husband says that it also said, "What ole Po Dunc says it is, it is!"
An interesting part of the picture is the house on the left which has been gone for a long time. Also interesting is seeing all those cars in the far background. They must have been across Vine Street, which runs parallel with Race. I also believe … (4 comments)

New cars!
Who does not love one?
This old picture is labeled on the back and that's the reason I know what year and model it was. The people in the picture are never forgotten. This photo was probably made for a Searcy AR High School yearbook. Car dealers were always called on to do a nice ad for the yearbooks and if they had kids in the class they did so proudly. Custom even started dictating that the students show up in the picture.

Seniors in Searcy High School have gone out and sold advertisements in the High School Yearbook for as long as I can remember. The books were heavy, full of pictures with enough memories to last a lifetime. Here's a picture from the 1976 yearbook.
The Seniors might try to get themselves and their relatives in the picture if the relatives had a business and bought an ad. This picture shows VW Duncan, car salesman supreme, who started and reigned over the car dealership on Race Street in Searcy Arkansas until his death. This man lost his mother when he was very young and started supporting himself at the age of 15 or 16. His education was limited but he was gifted with street-smarts.
He fell in love and talked this girl into marrying him. He had to break up a courtship that she already had going on but he was a born salesman.
Here she is with a classic beauty that is timeless. Look at her slim figure and flat tummy. He looks like a gospel singer with natural waves allowed to grow long on the top and plastered with Vitalis.
