I Splurged! I did! I did! I bought this old book from ebay for more than I ever thought I would!
But just look at it! It is the 1953 White County Girls' Basketball Tourney program! It cost 25 cents at the game to get the program. It contains pictures, feature stories, cage data (whatever that is) all about the big tournament.
It has pictures of the girls' teams from Griffithville, Rose Bud, Searcy, Judsonia, West Point, Beebe, McRae, Kensett, Bald Knob, Pangburn, Bradford and Central! Look back at these towns and think how much fun it was to have those teams......girls' teams! … (10 comments)

high school sports: Handsome young golfers. Searcy AR. 1980. Where are they now?

Browsing old newspapers can be so much fun and interesting! I found this old picture of several handsome young guys who were golfers. They must have been pretty good and this clipping indicates they were favored to win in an important tournament. (Wonder if they did?)
I remember them all. Some are still in Searcy. Perhaps they will all see this blog and tell us about their lives now!

high school sports: Searcy Arkansas letter sweater comes home. Do they still have these things?

Due to the death of my husband's mother the family things are being sorted out and each child is taking things home. She was a dear woman and never threw anything away. Looking through her things is like a trip back in time.
My husband came home with this letter sweater that he found stuffed back in a closet.
Looking closely you can see it says Jr on the letter and looking even more closely you can see the mothholes. He says he just got a sweater as a Junior.
